MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

High school graduation or the equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

Experience working with adolescents is desirable.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

License/Insurance Certification: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License. Evidence of adequate insurance for a motor vehicle that meets or exceeds the California legal liability insurance requirement and continues to maintain insurability.

Special Requirement: Certification of completion of 832.2 of California Penal Code, in compliance with California Education Code Section First aid and CPR Certificates are required within the first three months of employment. May be required to work adjustable work schedules including evenings, weekend and holiday assignments.

Physical Requirement: Successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Rules, laws and regulations related to maintaining campus control and appropriate student behavior; Adolescent behavior; Effective practices for maintaining campus control, security and appropriate

student behavior; School district organization; California law: penal, health and safety, education and motor vehicle code; Basic first aid, CPR and blood borne pathogens; Modern office equipment and procedures;

English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; Principles of radio voice communications; Record keeping techniques; General principles of law enforcement.

ABILITY TO:

Learn rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; Learn to recognize illegal and contraband weapons and substances; Pursue, apprehend, and constrain persons; Maintain confidentiality, remember facts, information and people; Communicate orally and in writing in English; Analyze situations, exercise sound judgment, and adopt effective courses of action; Learn the operation of communication devices and other job-related equipment; Understand and carry out oral and written directions in English; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; Perform duties involving occasional running and climbing and considerable walking; Perform duties involving prolonged exposure to weather conditions; Maintain records and prepare reports; Perform routine clerical work; Provide basic first aid and CPR.

Direct traffic; Oversee the activities of students on and adjacent to campus property; Facilitate communications between students, employees, district officials and staff to enhance understanding and promote a secure environment Observe situations and accurately determine effective courses of action; Act quickly and with mature judgment; Physically cover the areas of responsibility under varying weather conditions; Operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices; Maintain work pace appropriate to given workload.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a two-way radio and a computer keyboard; Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; Reach with hands and arms; Climb or balance; Walking or standing for extended periods of time; Running or walking quickly to respond to emergency situations or apprehend juvenile offenders; Hearing and speaking to exchange information; Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching or crawl to observe and/or assist students; Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus; Seeing to monitor students; Lifting, carrying, and pushing objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Environment: Indoor and outdoor environment; Classroom environment; Community environment; Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions; Exposure to fumes, dust, odors, oil/grease, gases consistent with a crowded parking lot; Exposure to stressful and hectic situations; Subject to possible fights and confrontations.

GENERAL ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Patrol assigned portions of campus and/or parking lot before, during and after school hours, on foot and in campus vehicles; Operate a two-way radio and report incidents to district administration and appropriate law enforcement agencies as directed; Respond to radio summons from site administration. Maintain a highly visible presence to deter crime and disorderly conduct; Respond to emergency situations, and take appropriate action in accordance with established guidelines; provide basic first aid services as necessary; Attempt to prevent or break up fights and disturbances; obtain names of those students involved with violating rules and regulations and report violations to administrators; Identify and control the presence of non-students on campus.

Attend extracurricular events, as assigned, such as dances, athletic events, drama productions and other events to maintain order and deter crime; Observe student behavior and caution students on the verge of violating rules. Prevent unauthorized students from leaving school; Write referrals to student offenders. Detain and escort students to appropriate administrator; Assist in directing emergency evacuations and other activities relating to the safety of individuals.

Observe and report to the appropriate district administrator and law enforcement agency as directed any damage to school property; Perform a variety of routine clerical work involving recordkeeping, telephone and preparing reports involving student referrals, crimes or incidents; Write clear and concise reports of incidents.

Open and close campus gates, lockers and classrooms as needed. Answer questions and direct visitors; Notify appropriate district administrator of suspected illegal activity on campus property, and areas adjacent to schools; Enforce school regulations including, but not limited to, smoking, truancy, tardiness and vandalism; Assist district administrators, other campus security personnel and law enforcement personnel in investigation and apprehension of persons committing rule or law violations; Provide appropriate leadership for students to earn their respect and cooperation in following directions and school rules.

Identify, correct and/or report safety hazards that may compromise student/staff safety; Monitor parking lots for proper parking procedures and traffic flow; Assist in the supervision of On Campus Suspension rooms; Meet with district administrators and site administrators to discuss security matters; May operate battery-powered vehicle in the performance of assigned duties; Physically restrain or detain persons involved in crimes, fights or other acts of violence pending the arrival of local administrator or law enforcement officer; Travel to other district sites to assist with security as needed, using personal transportation; Perform related duties as assigned.

CERTIFICATION TYPE: Substitute List - Qualified candidates, or Eligibles, who pass all testing stages will be placed on one eligibility list. Eligibles will be contacted in rank order to be processed as a substitute employee by Human Resources.

SCREENING PROCESS

The screening process for this position, which may be subject to modification, will include some form of a(n): application screening, initial qualifications screening, documentation/certification screening, and supplemental application screening. The stated qualifications for the position represent only the minimum requirements and do not guarantee qualification for examination or placement on an eligibility list.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination may consist of any combination of a(n): training and experience (T&E) evaluation, written knowledge test, hands on/performance test, structured panel interview, situational judgement interview, or other type of exam of fitness for duty. All parts of the examination process are job related. A passing score must be attained on each portion of the exam to advance to the next stage and ultimate placement on an eligibility list.

DISABILITY ACCOMMODATION

Requests must be signed by your medical doctor, school psychologist, or learning consultant as appropriate and must be on provider letterhead and contain an actual signature.

EXAM PROTESTS

Protest of any part of the exam process must be in writing and submitted to the Personnel Director no later than five (5) working days from the date you participated in the exam. Any protest must include rationale to support the protest and shall include supporting documentation or references. Protests must be based on illegal discrimination, abuse of discretion, or procedure/process error. Protests should NOT be based on receiving unexpected results. We cannot be responsible for lost mail, misdirected mail, or failure of mail to be delivered after it has been entrusted to the U.S. Postal Service.

ESTABLISHMENT OF ELIGIBILITY

Candidates who are successful in all screening and testing stages will be placed on an eligibility list. The eligibility list created from this recruitment will expire after six (6) months, and may possibly be extended for one (1) year. Candidates on the expired eligibility list are no longer considered for positions within the class. Eligibility lists may be extended beyond one year or expire sooner than one year. Eligibility lists may be merged, in which case candidate ranks may change.

SELECTION PROCESS

Candidates on the eligibility list will be called in rank order to participate in final selection interviews with the hiring manager until three ranks of candidates have accepted the invitation to interview. Ranks may include ties so more than three candidates may be called to interview for one vacancy. Please note that candidates will be removed from the eligibility list for declining the invitation to interview more than three (3) times.

OFFERS OF EMPLOYMENT

Official offers of employment are ONLY made by the Anaheim Union High School District Human Resources, Classified Office. Offers are subject to satisfactory completion of ALL the pre-employment processing including: successful completion of a physical examination, tuberculosis examination, fingerprint clearance by the California Department of Justice, and proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

ADVANCED STEP PLACEMENT

All new regular classified employees shall be paid in accordance with the salary range established for the class to which assigned. Initial placement will normally be the first step of the salary range. However, a new employee may be provided with advanced step placement upon recommendation of the hiring manager and approval by Human Resources based upon:

A) Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class.

B) Additional education at the college level when related to the position, beyond the established educational requirements for entry into the class.

C) Difficulty experienced in the recruitment of candidates to meet the vacancy needs in the class.

D) Additional skills or qualifications of the candidate that make them especially qualified for the position.

E) Evidence of currently receiving a salary greater than the first step of the salary for the classification.
