I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

Located in our New York or Los Angeles office and reporting to the Associate Director of Social Production, the Editorial Assistant, Social Production will be responsible for helping craft compelling and entertaining content for our TikTok and Snapchat platforms. Your primary responsibilities will include pitching + writing compelling copy for PEOPLE's Snapchat Discover and editing + producing videos for TikTok and Snapchat Spotlight (Snapchat's version of TikTok).

You should be meme-fluent, passionate about pop culture, have a familiarity of the celebrity space, and be a frequent consumer of TikTok and other short-form, mobile-first video content. You should be able to pitch creative ideas in a collaborative environment and see them through from concept and design to execution and promotion of the content across platforms. The role will involve working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, and a successful candidate will be a team player with excellent communication skills and a passion for storytelling on multiple platforms. There will be on-camera opportunities, so this person should also be comfortable with hosting short-form videos and turning them around in a timely manner to respond to news moments in real time.

II. Essential Job Functions

Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results

40% - Pitching and writing content for our Snapchat Discover

35% - Creating, editing and producing TikToks and Snapchat Spotlights (Snapchat's version of TikTok)

10% - Assist the Platforms Team in development and strategy for new projects and/or establishing PEOPLE on new platforms

10% - Meaningfully participate in creative brainstorms for new content in collaboration with the Audience and Video teams

5% - Attend PEOPLE shoots, awards shows and other red carpet events to capture social-first video content



III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements

Education:

BA or BS in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Film/TV, Writing or a related field is preferred.

Experience:

At least 1 year of experience in a digital role is preferred.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of entertainment, pop culture and the PEOPLE brand
  • An idea generator who can think of new, fresh social and video ideas
  • Editing experience (Adobe Premiere preferred) and basic camera skills
  • Knowledge of Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, social media and video scripting
  • Experience creating and uploading TikTok videos
  • Ability to work well with team members in a creative, collaborative, fast-paced environment
  • Must have a love for digital video and an eye on trends in the industry
  • Must be able to communicate effectively — verbally, in writing, and in person
  • Must be able to multitask and manage multiple projects and assignment simultaneously
  • Must be highly organized with excellent follow-through
