Key Responsibilities
  • Team and Site Leadership
    • Collaborate with the in-house Valnet resource team to discuss team progress, challenges, and requirements.
    • Participate in daily editorial pitch meetings to provide constructive feedback and uphold the editorial vision.
    • Conduct weekly staff meetings to share updates on traffic objectives, announce site-wide initiatives, and offer team support.
    • Facilitate weekly model meetings with Valnet supervisors to communicate staff capacity and monitor progress on traffic goals and output initiatives.
    • Develop and execute a strategic plan for sustained growth.
    • Review the site to assess successful elements and pinpoint areas needing improvement.
    • Propose and implement effective strategies to meet ambitious output and session targets.
  • Content Strategy
    • Investigate and identify topics and content formats that will drive traffic using Google Analytics and other data sources; seek ways to significantly enhance our current coverage.
    • Source compelling stories and angles for writers and editors.
    • Maintain and optimize a comprehensive catalog of music articles.
  • Team Development and Management
    • Build and lead a team of emerging writers.
    • Collaborate with HR in talent acquisition efforts, including sourcing and identifying potential editor candidates.
    • Conduct editor interviews and approve writer application samples.
    • Work with the training team to ensure up-to-date training systems and assist with onboarding for Lead Editors.
  • Oversight of Editorial Team
    • Ensure the team meets output targets and quality standards; hold team members accountable for missed opportunities.
    • Manage the internal development of both writers and editors.
    • Assemble a proficient team of editors with the necessary technical skills and industry knowledge.
    • Provide feedback to ensure adherence to SR's publication standards and that editors are contributing the required amounts.
    • Create a positive and engaging environment for music enthusiasts eager to contribute and grow with the team.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in senior editorial roles (managing editor, deputy editor, editor-in-chief) within a digital publication focused on music content.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • A genuine passion for and background in music.
  • Proficiency in image editing.
  • Understanding of SEO principles.
  • Experience with analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics).
  • Management of freelance writers.
  • Demonstrated success in team growth, expanding content coverage, and driving traffic.
