The Oregon Convention Center is one of the largest convention facilities in the Pacific Northwest, attracting out-of-town visitors to national conventions, tradeshows and meetings, and local people to special events.

The convention center's roughly 160 employees host more than 1 million visitors each year.

The Oregon Convention Center (OCC) is looking for a Facilities Engineer to welcome to the team.

We're looking for a team member who is curious and has a desire to continue to build their professional career.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of different equipment and systems.

This position has many diverse responsibilities in an environment with unlimited opportunities for enhancing one's knowledge of building equipment, systems, and processes.

This position works under the direction of the Facilities Engineering Manager and Lead Engineer.

As the Facility Engineer you will:
Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC equipment including chillers, cooling towers, boilers, air handling units, and associated equipment

Proficient in the operation and scheduling of Building Management Systems (Alerton) to ensure client and occupants' comfort

Maintain, operate, and repair refrigeration systems and associated equipment

Maintain and repair commercial kitchen equipment

Repair and maintain plumbing systems and associated fixtures including backflow devices.

Repair and maintain rolling stock (i.e., forklifts, riding floor scrubbers/sweepers, carts, etc.) and record completed work in the CMMS program

Complete work orders in the CMMS program to ensure timely and accurate documentation of scheduled maintenance and on-demand work orders

Maintain building electrical system (i.e., changes light bulbs, repairs broken outlet plugs, changes light ballast, etc.)

Install temporary event-related services, such as the installation of air, water, and natural gas connections

Attributes for success:

Knowledge of:
Operation, maintenance and repair of hot water boilers, refrigeration equipment, centrifugal chillers and cooling towers

Pneumatic and mechanical controls Maintenance and repair of plumbing fixtures Complex heating and ventilation systems

Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), OCC currently utilizes Asset Essentials, by Brightly

Building Management Systems (BMS), OCC uses Ascent Compass, by Alerton. Lighting Control Systems, OCC uses Quantum by Lutron

Skill to:
Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC systems Perform gas and electric repairs using MIG and TIG welding process

Understand and follow written and verbal instructions Operate computer programs associated with job duties

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public

Ability to rebuild pumps, fans, and gas and electric motor-driven equipment used by the facility, as allowed by state law

Read mechanical and electrical blueprints

Work independently and as a team with other team members

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, fellow employees and the public utilizing the OCC

Write daily shift logs and use Windows based computer systems Obtain licenses as required Comprehend and abide by the rules and regulations established by the Oregon Convention Center and Metro

Perform tasks that require heavy lifting, moving, etc.

Apply federal, state, local laws, regulations, and agency policies and procedures for respective field

Work in a safe manner and follow Metro safety policies, practices, and procedures

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or GED; AND

Two years experience as an operating engineer in a large public events facility. Experience must include work-related tasks in plumbing, refrigeration, heating, and cooling OR


Any combination of education and experience, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.


Applicant must possess or have the ability to obtain an EPA Universal Refrigeration Certification, Brazing Certification, Backflow Assembly Tester Certification, and CPR Certification.

Must be available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required. All standard schedules include at least one Saturday or Sunday.

Required:
Limited Maintenance Electrical (LME) License

Valid state driver's license (driving check will be completed on finalist).

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS, AND REPRESENTATION


Based on the Oregon Pay Equity Act, the Facility Engineer role, the entry rate is $41.42 and after successfully completing a 6-month probationary period, the rate of pay will increase to $43.40.

This position is non-exempt and is eligible for overtime.

This position is represented by IUOE 701 union and is classified as an Operating Engineer II (Download PDF reader)(click to read the full classification).
