Position Overview

If you possess a human-centered approach and a positive leadership style, you might be the ideal candidate for the role of Facilities and Construction Operations Manager within Oregon Metro's waste management division.
Key Responsibilities
The Facilities and Construction Operations Manager will play a pivotal role within the Waste Prevention and Environmental Services (WPES) department, which is responsible for managing waste and recycling services in the region. This position encompasses:
- Leading and developing the Facilities team.
- Overseeing maintenance and construction activities across multiple waste management facilities.
- Collaborating with both internal and external partners to ensure operational efficiency.
This role supervises a team of three direct reports, including two Construction Project Managers and a Maintenance Supervisor, and provides leadership to a total of nine employees.
Responsibilities Include:
- Fostering a respectful and inclusive team culture across various locations.
- Developing and mentoring team members, including hiring, training, and performance management.
- Ensuring safe maintenance and repair operations, prioritizing projects that enhance equity and worker safety.
- Preparing and managing the work plan for the Facilities team, ensuring timely completion of projects.
- Overseeing procurement and contract administration to ensure compliance and equitable opportunities.
- Establishing collaborative relationships with Metro employees and leadership.
- Coordinating with architects and engineers for project specifications.
- Maintaining an asset management program for facilities, including preventative maintenance schedules.
- Implementing the team's budget and monitoring expenditures for maintenance and construction projects.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field, along with:
- Five years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Two years of experience in construction project management or maintenance.
Alternatively, a combination of education, professional experience, and relevant skills will be considered.
Additional Requirements
A valid driver's license is required for this position. The role may involve telework, but regular presence at waste management facilities is necessary. Personal protective equipment will be provided as needed.
