Overview

This position is responsible for overall leadership, planning, administration, and management of the MBCC dock operations and logistics. The Loading Dock Supervisor will be focused on delivering the highest level of customer service, while maximizing efficiencies, to ensure safe and efficient operation of the loading docks. The Loading Dock Supervisor will work with internal MBCC departments, clients, exhibitors, vendors, and contract partners, as directed. The Loading Dock Supervisor ensures there is a coordinated effort in preparation for and execution of the move in/out of each event, in compliance with MBCC policies. The Loading Dock Supervisor is also responsible for the supervision of Waste Management.

This role will pay an hourly wage of $18 to $20.

Responsibilities

  • Provides supervision, direction and order to the loading dock activities at the MBCC.
  • Plans, coordinates, and supervises shipping and receiving schedules.
  • Responsible for the accurate tracking of all MBCC materials and packages received at the loading docks, ensuring they are properly delivered to appropriate parties and received.
  • Assigns bays to incoming and outgoing vehicles on the basis of delivery and departure times, as specified.
  • Maintains relationships with all contractors to ensure all personnel are aware of and adhere to facility policies and applicable laws.
  • Reviews loading dock plans, in collaboration with the Public Safety and Transportation Department (PST), ensuring all plans comply with the MBCC's policies and appropriate personnel are scheduled.
  • Works in collaboration with the General Service Contractor, Event Operations and PST to review all "Special Requests" relating to equipment storage or other adjustments to the loading dock plan.
  • Responsible for the supervision of loading dock logistics, ensuring the efficient operation for all areas of responsibility, including product, people and machinery.
  • Collaborates with Transportation Manager to produce anticipated schedule of loading dock activities each week (2 weeks prior) and coordinates with appropriate departments and contractors regarding space availability.
  • Reports and establishes a regular maintenance schedule for all loading docks and associated equipment, to maintain a safe, secure, and clean environment with appropriate MBCC personnel.
  • Supervises the MBCC's Waste Management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSABILITIES:

Oversees the work of Loading Dock personnel (General Service Contractor, Waste Management, Event Labor, etc.) to ensure efficient and safe movement of materials from dock.

Education and Experience:

  • Some college work preferred; however, relevant experience can substitute for college work.
  • 1-3 year's relevant work experience in shipping/ receiving/ logistics/ operations strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the principles of facility management, services, and equipment for a similar venue.
  • Previous experience in a public assembly venue in a similar position, highly desirable.

  • The work schedule for this position fluctuates based upon the needs of a particular event or project, which would require the ability to work a flexible schedule including late nights, early mornings, long days, weekends and holidays.
  • Perform all duties in a professional productive manner with the aim of delivering a superior level of customer service to ensure a successful event and experience for the client.
  • Bilingual skills English/Spanish required.

Computer and Technology Skills:

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS SharePoint and MS Outlook), internet and be familiar with a variety of office equipment.

While performing the responsibilities of the Loading Dock Supervisor, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is constantly required to exert various types of physical exertion, such as prolonged walking, standing, reaching, bending, kneeling, and lifting. The vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

The Loading Dock Supervisor works in indoor and outdoor work settings with mild to adverse exposure to environmental hazards. The incumbent must be able to climb stairs and ladders and walk long distances to access all areas of the facility. The noise level in the work environment is usually mild to loud. Incumbents in this position work in varying settings and will be subject to noise and atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dust, etc.
