Position Summary:
The Sales Counter Representative is responsible for assisting walk-in customers by efficiently processing orders and delivering products while utilizing technical expertise to meet customer requirements. This role involves preparing and packaging delivery orders, restocking inventory, and ensuring a positive customer experience through courteous service and accurate recordkeeping.
- Engages with walk-in customers to address inquiries, determining the necessary types, quantities, and quality of products, and entering orders as required.
- Processes sales and return orders with complete and accurate information, adhering to all relevant Standard Operating Procedures.
- Confirms customer details, credit status, and job information to ensure proper order preparation and payment processing.
- Prepares orders for both walk-in customers and deliveries, assisting with loading as needed.
- Collaborates with Yard and Shipping teams for the pickup of materials and occasional product deliveries.
- Handles cash on delivery (COD) payments, including cash, checks, and credit cards.
- Conducts thorough inspections and documentation of returned products at the counter.
- Maintains and organizes warehouse shelves to ensure they are well-stocked and orderly.
- Follows all policies and procedures related to counter sales operations.
- Utilizes equipment and supplies efficiently to support effective counter operations.
- Adheres to all safety rules and guidelines.
- Performs additional tasks as assigned by management.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Stays informed about all product offerings.
- Reports any issues affecting customer satisfaction to the supervisor.
- Keeps the work area, including the counter, shipping dock, and surrounding spaces, clean and organized.
Work Environment:
This position involves daily interaction with customers at the sales counter, requiring the ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy items, and climb ladders. The role also involves operating warehouse equipment and may expose the employee to dust and dirt.
Qualifications:
- Strong communication and customer service skills are essential.
- Must be self-motivated with a positive attitude and dynamic personality.
- General knowledge of distribution counter sales operations is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A high school diploma with at least one year of experience in counter sales is required.
- A minimum of two years of industry-related experience, particularly in Pipes, Valves, and Fittings, is preferred.
