What You Will Do:

The P.A.C.E Employment Manager oversees the career, vocational, and social relationships between the PACE students and their employers in the community. The Employment Manager develops student internship positions, assigns student to appropriate internships and oversees the supervision provided to students by the job coaches. The Employment manager networks in the employment community to secure internship opportunities that align with the vocational interests and strengths of the students. The Employment Manager works with other PACE faculty to keep the vocational training component compatible with and complementary to other areas of the program.

About NLU's PACE Program:

Path to Academics, Community and Employment (P.A.C.E) is a three-year, post-secondary certificate program designed to meet the transitional needs for young adults with multiple intellectual, learning and developmental disabilities.
P.A.C.E. at NLU Students
  • Learn, work, and play in the vibrant city of Chicago

  • Are involved in a variety of clubs and student life activities
  • Make meaningful connections with the Chicagoland community by participating in service learning projects
Essential Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain internship sites in business community and within the University. Educate employers and site employees regarding educational goals of the program and students, including in services and on-site support. Arrange "appreciation" and other public relations activities and events supporting internship site personnel.
  • Teach Vocational and Job Search classes within the program, and assist with individual paid employment searches, to include assisting students' development of interview skills and portfolios for future work experiences.
  • Assess strengths and vocational goals of each PACE student. Assign each student to internship sites that will further the students skills and career goals. Problem solve work site issues with students and job coaches. Communicate with parents regarding student internship concerns.
  • Lead weekly vocational team meetings, attend PACE team leader meetings, and participate in up to 10 student candidate interviews. Train, mentor and supervise the job coaches who support the students in the field.
  • Develop internships for first year PACE students within different departments of the NLU Chicago campus.
  • Develop and maintain relationship with the University Student Career Development department, and serve as PACE liaison.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree preferred. Bachelor's degree in Vocational Rehabilitation, Special Education, or Social Work field with direct programmatic work experience with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities may be considered as equivalent to Master's degree in a disability-related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of leadership experience including mentoring and supervising others
  • Experience working directly with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, particularly in a vocational or employment context.
  • A strong belief that students with disabilities can be successful and learn to be independent required members to cultivate an environment where we collectively focus on uplifting and advancing our institutional culture.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, families and other agency representatives as appropriate
  • Must be prepared for local travel
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Knowledge and acceptance of students with disabilities
  • Needs to be a self-starter and work with flexible hours and time schedule
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, and strong organization and time management skills required
