The Senior Practice Management Manager will support the IP practice group and provide essential support to attorneys in workflow management and career development. This role involves driving key practice group initiatives and enhancing associate retention and development. This role will be hybrid & can sit in any of the firms US offices (San Francisco, Santa Monica, Silicon Valley, Seattle, NYC or D.C.)
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a trusted resource for associates, providing guidance and support.
- Lead the planning and execution of practice-specific formal training programs for attorneys, collaborating with the Legal Training team as needed.
- Oversee mentorship programs, conduct associate check-ins, and collaborate with support departments to foster associate development.
- Monitor associate developmental priorities to ensure consistent goal achievement.
- Act as the primary contact for associates and partners regarding workflow and time management, facilitating cross-practice collaboration.
- Work closely with practice area leaders to manage work allocation and utilization within the free-market workflow system.
- Manage orientation and integration processes for lateral associates, agents, and tech advisors.
- Lead departure procedures for departing lawyers, agents, and tech advisors.
- Assist in developing agendas and presentations for practice group and subgroup meetings.
- Review and approve Attorney Training Account requests, monitoring data to identify potential performance issues.
- Supervise junior practice management staff members.
- Continuously evaluate practice group needs, identify resource gaps, and support recruiting efforts.
- Collaborate with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) experts and practice group leaders to advance firm and practice group DEI goals through work allocation and opportunities.
- Partner with various departments on strategic practice group projects (e.g., Business Development, Legal Personnel, Recruiting, Finance, Knowledge Management).
- Foster teamwork and mentorship through regular Practice Area gatherings, team-building activities, and virtual events to enhance cohesion and morale.
- Monitor budget allocation for all practice group events.
- Collaborate with Practice Area Leaders to develop and execute business strategies, ensuring alignment with firm goals and strategic plans.
- Work closely with the Director of IP and Regulatory, Practice Area Leads, and partners to achieve strategic priorities.
- Develop and implement processes to support practice areas and practice groups.
Skills & Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in practice management or intellectual property management.
- Proven leadership skills, with a track record of impacting talent development.
- Bachelor’s degree required; JD, MBA, or other advanced degrees preferred.
- High emotional intelligence and ability to influence others in a fast-paced client service environment.
- Familiarity with business process improvement practices.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, service mentality, and relationship-building ability.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, capable of diplomatic and professional conversations.
- Proficiency in data analytics to assess metrics and present insights to senior leaders.
- Commitment to providing high-quality client service, both internally and externally.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, Smartsheet, Outlook, PowerPoint, and ability to quickly adapt to new software.
