World Business Chicago is a public-private, non-profit partnership that drives inclusive economic growth and job creation, supports business, and promotes Chicago as a leading global city.


Position Summary

The Director of Business Development is a full-time position that reports to the Chief Growth Officer. The Director of Business Development will be an economic development generalist leading a wide range of initiatives to support investment and jobs through project development ranging from prospect identification and subsequent outreach to client management and deal closure.


Responsibilities

  • Identify prospective companies and set up meetings with business executives – with a focus industrial business operation – but being comfortable with all types of business operations.
  • Oversee World Business Chicago’s real estate efforts including: Providing guidance and leadership in the site selection process; Leading the proactive efforts to support core economic corridors of Michigan Ave., State St., and LaSalle St.; Maintaining strong relationships with commercial and industrial real estate community.
  • Identify and secure prospects’ interest in the Chicago area via technology, face-to-face visits and multimedia presentations.
  • Comfort in organizing large-scale convenings – such as roundtables – that position Chicago for investment.
  • Support the department by leading on business development projects related to other investment opportunities not identified.
  • Promote Chicagoland as the ideal location for investment and expansions (for instance by initiating and speaking at business seminars, participating in networking events, etc.)
  • Develop relocation proposals and requests for information, as well as arranging required site visits
  • Work with fellow staff to develop, implement, and improve business development marketing and outreach efforts
  • Complete regularly required status reports and maintain project tracking databases
  • Develop and communicate a strong working knowledge of Chicago’s economic advantages, sites and buildings, incentives, workforce, and other locational advantages available to support prospective businesses
  • Support and organize marketing trips that build the awareness and brand as a leading global city for business investment
  • Conduct other related tasks and assignments not specified above
