About the Role

The Vice President of Strategic Sourcing & Inventory Control will serve as a key advisor to the COO and the Corporate Executive Team, providing both strategic and operational guidance for sourcing raw materials, managing inbound logistics, and overseeing inventory control. This role is pivotal in driving cost efficiencies, ensuring supply chain reliability, and fostering strong supplier relationships. The primary objective is establishing an efficient, transparent, and sustainable sourcing process that enhances source-to-operations visibility. The Vice President will closely collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to deliver exceptional performance and optimize efficiency. Maintaining the highest level of confidentiality while providing outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers and partners is crucial to this role.


Responsibilities:

Sourcing Management:

  • Lead the sourcing function with a strategic focus on enhancing negotiation strategies and optimizing sourcing processes to secure the best terms and conditions with suppliers.
  • Implement supplier performance metrics and conduct regular reviews to drive continuous improvement and implementation of strategies to optimize incoming supply from multiple sources.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with railcar manufacturers, lessors, service providers, trucking companies, and key suppliers to ensure high-quality materials and services.


Inbound Logistics:

  • Oversee the inbound logistics operations to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of materials.
  • Collaborate with logistics partners to enhance efficiency and reliability in sourcing and inventory functions.
  • Manage the procurement of railcars, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.


Inventory Control:

  • Develop and implement inventory management strategies to optimize stock levels and reduce carrying costs.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely tracking of inventory to maintain source-to-customer visibility.
  • Lead the SIOP process and collaborate with other departments, including operations, finance, and logistics, to ensure alignment and support for sourcing initiatives.


Data Analytics:

  • Through analytics, identify and implement cost-saving opportunities across the sourcing function, as well as optimize inventory levels and manage sourcing budgets effectively.
  • Implement data-driven approaches to forecast demand, manage inventory, analyze markets trends, and optimize sourcing processes.
  • Develop and implement analytical models and risk management strategies to mitigate sourcing and inventory disruptions.


Cost Efficiency and Sustainability:

  • Drive cost reduction initiatives across sourcing and inventory processes while maintaining high service levels.
  • Establish sustainable sourcing practices that support long-term business goals.


Collaboration and Performance:

  • Work closely with continuous improvement and BI analytics to ensure seamless data access and reporting capabilities across functions to ensure streamlined reports, processes, and optimization.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and customer-centric service within the sourcing and inventory team.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business administration, or a related field. MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in procurement and sourcing, with a significant focus on negotiations, creating analytics, and optimizing freight expense with 5+ years of team leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in bulk liquid logistics with rail, truck and marine transportation including negotiation.
  • Proven track record of successful high-stakes negotiations and supplier relationship management.
  • Ability to make decisions based on creating and utilizing analytical information, think strategically, and translate strategic vision into tactical and actionable plans.
  • Demonstrate understanding of procurement, sourcing, logistics, inventory management, production planning, transportation, warehousing, and distribution, as well as a strong understanding of the railcar industry, including regulatory requirements and market dynamics.
  • Proficiency in supply chain management software, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, data analytics tools, and other relevant technologies is increasingly important. Knowledge of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT) in the context of supply chain management can be an added advantage.
  • Demonstrate ability to create clear concise communications with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail and present information to a multitude of audiences.
  • Outstanding Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Valid Driver’s License and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record MVR.
