The Pediatric Advanced Practice Provider (APP) collaborates with a multidisciplinary team within the division of Pediatric Critical Care, operating at both the Dallas and Plano campuses. This role is primarily focused on the Intermediate Care Unit, managing patients with complex medical needs who no longer require intensive care but need more support than provided on the general floor. This position demands high autonomy, critical thinking, and clinical expertise in handling complex and critically ill pediatric patients. The APP's responsibilities include patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, education, consultation, health promotion, and care coordination for patients and their families.

Locations: Dallas or Plano, TX

Scheduled Hours: Variable shifts, including nights, weekends, and rotating holidays

Experience and Education:

  • Master's degree or higher in nursing, with documentation of completion of an accredited Advanced Practice Education Program.
  • Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must align with clinical practice area and patient population.
  • Graduate of an Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Preferred: One year of pediatric experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in PICU, ICU, or ER.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (CPNP-AC) by the Texas State Board of Nursing with prescriptive authority, OR
  • Licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification by the American Heart Association or Red Cross

Job Duties:

  • Conduct and document comprehensive physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
  • Utilize evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans, including ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in technical and procedural skills appropriate to the specialty and training.
  • Provide management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families, and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives through workshops, seminars, and staff meetings to enhance clinical and system performance.
  • Collaborate in research projects and apply evidence-based best practices to patient care.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

  • Maintain current customer service, clinical, and technical skills
  • Identify opportunities and suggest improvements in departmental policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Proficient use of EMR in care delivery
