Job Description:
We seek an enthusiastic and skilled scientist to lead protein purification, production, and characterization efforts within our Rapid Response Group (RRG), a specialized team in our Discovery Division. The RRG operates with a hands-on, mission-focused approach, parachuting into high-impact projects to develop critical tools, methodologies, and data that enhance our therapeutic programs. The successful candidate will be a key member of this elite team, driving research on protein targets and therapeutic development. This role is crucial to our R&D mission, directly influencing our success by overcoming protein-related challenges and enabling the translation of cutting-edge discoveries into therapeutics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and optimize protein expression systems, focusing on baculovirus (insect cell) and/or mammalian systems, and perform sub-cloning as needed to support these efforts.
- Design and implement novel purification protocols to address technical challenges, leveraging a deep understanding of molecular biology and biochemistry.
- Troubleshoot and refine protein expression and purification strategies, ensuring high-quality protein production through advanced chromatographic and filtration techniques.
- Analyze experimental data, support scale-up processes, and drive continuous improvement while ensuring adherence to timelines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with immuno-oncology, virology, and structural biology teams, sharing expertise to enhance our ability to work with a diverse family of proteins.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or a related field; exceptional MS candidates will be considered.
- 5-7 years of relevant experience in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Expertise in construct design, sub-cloning, and protein purification, with experience spanning the entire protein production pipeline, from gene design through to characterization.
- Deep expertise and hands-on experience with multiple protein expression systems, particularly baculovirus and/or mammalian expression, evidenced by a track record of prior work across different protein classes.
- Experience in purifying biologics using techniques such as affinity chromatography (e.g., Protein A/G/L, Ni-NTA), ion exchange, size exclusion, and hydrophobic interaction chromatography.
- Proficiency in analytical techniques such as SDS-PAGE, HPLC or UHPLC, and other relevant analytical methods.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills, strong analytical abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and exceptional organizational skills.
- High degree of independence, intellectual capacity, and initiative.
- Strong work ethic and adaptability, with the ability to multitask and maintain a "can-do" attitude as R&D priorities shift.
