Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage production schedules that accommodate the low volume, high mix nature of the manufacturing process, ensuring timely delivery of products.
  • Evaluate and plan for the capacity needed to meet production demands, considering the variability in product types and volumes.
  • Design and implement workflows that optimize production efficiency while accommodating frequent changeovers and diverse product specifications.
  • Manage inventory levels to ensure materials and components are available for production without excess stock, which ties up capital.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials, negotiate contracts, and address any supply chain disruptions.
  • Optimize the use of materials, minimizing waste and ensuring that the right materials are available when needed for production.
  • Establish and enforce quality control procedures to ensure that all products meet the required specifications and standards.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives, such as Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing, to enhance product quality and reduce defects.
  • Lead investigations into quality issues, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Oversee the hiring, training, and development of production staff, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge to operate effectively in a LVHM environment.
  • Ensure that production equipment is properly maintained and operational, minimizing downtime and ensuring reliable performance.
  • Develop and manage the operations budget, controlling costs while achieving production goals.
  • Implement Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce waste, improve process efficiency, and increase flexibility in handling various product types.
  • Continuously assess and refine manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, reduce cycle times, and accommodate product variability.
  • Evaluate opportunities for automation and advanced manufacturing technologies to enhance production efficiency without compromising the ability to handle a high mix of products.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field.

7+ years of experience in manufacturing operations, preferably in a LVHM environment.

Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies.

Proven ability to manage complex production schedules and diverse product lines.

Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Experience in heavy equipment manufacturing or a related industry is preferred.
