Blue Krewe is a community-based nonprofit that operates and manages Blue Bikes, an affordable bikeshare program uniquely designed for New Orleans. Our team is dedicated to offering the Greater New Orleans region an equitable bikeshare program that is an affordable, fun, environmentally-friendly, and convenient transportation option for all. Blue Krewe was created in 2020 by the Greater New Orleans Foundation, which provided critical start-up funding and fiscal sponsorship, in partnership with the City of New Orleans and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana. 

The mission of Blue Krewe is to provide the Greater New Orleans region with equitable shared micromobility solutions that are rooted in and supportive of our community.

Reporting to the Executive Director, top priorities for the Director of Operations include the safety of Blue Bikes riders and employees, bike availability and operability and ensuring efficient day-to-day operations of Blue Krewe. A focus of this position is achieving and maintaining high maintenance standards, ensuring staff complete and stay up to date with all required training and have the necessary equipment to complete their jobs efficiently and safely. The Director of Operations manages a budget as well as business process improvements while monitoring and reporting performance metrics.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage the operations team and ensure successful overall operational performance and day to day business operations
  • Participation in union negotiations until a collective bargaining agreement is reached
  • Foster an environment of teamwork, fairness and equity in a unionized environment that reflects Blue Krewe’s values of community, equity, local economics, sustainability and an awesome user experience
  • Manage, monitor and report on the operations budget
  • Manage the operations team to ensure the Blue Bikes fleet delivers an awesome customer experience: battery swapping, bike safety & maintenance, cleaning & repair, and rebalancing bikes from one location to another as user demand dictates.
  • Create and implement procedures for the operations team, mechanics, and warehouse to ensure operational excellence.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data to ensure performance metrics for bike and station maintenance and bicycle availability are met, and where needed, improved.
  • Establish and maintain inventory tracking systems and accountability
  • Report on your team’s performance metrics at weekly management meetings and review OKRs monthly or more frequently if required.
  • Train and manage thorough, timely, and accurate data entry as required by all employees.
  • Hire, manage, and grow the operations team to deliver an outstanding customer experience.


Desired Qualities and Skills:

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field preferred; advanced degree a plus
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing diverse and varied teams, developing and optimizing procedures, and training and developing staff.
  • Experience managing and prioritizing multiple conflicting demands of staff, contractors/vendors, budgets, and clients in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills; technical and/or mechanical skills a plus.
  • Proficient knowledge of Google G-Suite and Microsoft Office. Comfort with and ability to learn new technology quickly.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Intimate knowledge of the neighborhoods of New Orleans.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience inspiring and motivating employees to successfully achieve operational goals.
  • Interpersonal skills – maintain confidentiality; remain open to others' ideas; demonstrate willingness to try new things.
  • Adaptability – enthusiastically adapt to changes in the work environment; manage competing demands; deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.

Physical Working Environment and Conditions:

The operations of Blue Krewe is at a warehouse in New Orleans. The Director of Operations maintains a presence in the warehouse with the team as required and necessary for successful business operations and team cohesion.


Will involve frequent or prolonged standing, bicycling, or driving and may require bending, stooping, and lifting up to 40 pounds.


Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this role is $70k-$80k depending on experience. Benefits include an employer contribution to your selected medical, dental, vision plan, an employer sponsored telehealth plan option, paid sick and vacation time, holidays, a simple IRA with an employer match of up to 2% with immediate vesting.

We anticipate the following hiring process and timeline:
