A highly regarded law firm in Washington, D.C. is currently seeking experienced applicants for their opening as a Business Development Specialist. This is a contract, hybrid role based out of the D.C. office. Preferred candidates will have prior experience working in a law firm or other legal services organization.


  • Pay starting at $25/hour (flexible based on experience)
  • Contract role - immediate hiring need
  • Hybrid position


This temporary position will be located in Washington, D.C. and will support a variety of business development activities. The specialist will work with lawyers, business development managers, and other firm staff to support profile-raising and business growth efforts for certain practices and initiatives. The majority of time will be devoted to pitches/proposals; sponsorships, conferences, and events; and other promotional projects.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with Business Development Director or Business Development Manager to implement marketing and business development activities and projects for designated groups and initiatives.
  • Responsible for supporting RFP, pitch, and proposal processes from planning through submission. Elements of this responsibility include, for example:
  • Working with attorneys, marketing staff, and other firm personnel in the development and execution of proposals and presentations.
  • Understanding and identifying most applicable content, editing existing content, and drafting new content for proposals and pitches.
  • Coordinating information and research requests with research analysts, accounting personnel, and Firm’s reference librarians.
  • Coordinating assembly/production and delivery of finished product, either in Word or PowerPoint.
  • Maintain and update practice group content for central Foundation database.
  • Help coordinate and support client development and brand positioning efforts, such as sponsorships, in-person seminars, webinars, and other events.
  • Coordinate and prepare submissions for major awards and legal directories (e.g., Chambers and the Legal 500).
  • Use of firm database Interaction to identify and confirm relationship targets.
  • Provide support for attorneys reaching out to targeted contacts and clients, including creation of targeted lists for specific business development efforts and events.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience in marketing, business development or client relations role, preferably in a professional services company or firm. Legal marketing experience is preferred.
  • Comfortable using a variety of proprietary marketing databases such as Foundation or InterAction is a plus.
  • Experience working on RFP’s, pitches, and proposals.
  • Demonstrated exceptional writing and editing skills.
  • Knowledge of business development processes required.



LOD offers non-attorney flexible talent placement rates that range from $15 to $100 per hour depending upon experience level and specific skills requested by the client, the candidate’s general skill set, the applicability of the candidate's skill set to client need, client budget, number of hours requested, and other factors. A specific rate of pay for a project will be discussed with you if it is determined that you are a potential fit for a role.
