Position Summary:

The Georgia Conservancy, a leader in environmental protection and advocacy in Georgia, seeks a dynamic and experienced Director of Development. This individual will play a pivotal role in advancing our mission by leading the organization's fundraising efforts. The Director of Development will work closely with the President, COO, contract grant writer, as well as the Board of Trustees, to ensure the financial stability and growth of the organization.

Responsibilities:

Fundraising Strategy and Execution:

  •  Implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to meet and exceed annual revenue goals.
  •  Oversee the full fundraising lifecycle, including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gifts of $5,000 and above.
  •  Manage a portfolio of approximately 125 major donors and prospects, focusing on individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  •  Schedule and conduct 15-20 donor meetings per month to secure major gifts.
  •  Collaborate with the President, COO, and contract grant writer to create major gift proposals and foundation grant applications. Coordination with Georgia Conservancy’s events team.


Donor Relationship Management:

  •  Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential donors through personalized communication and engagement strategies.
  • Implement donor retention programs to ensure long-term engagement and support.
  •  Coordinate with Georgia Conservancy’s events team to identify more robust donor relationships among key event sponsors and/or attendees.


Team Leadership and Collaboration:

  •  Supervise and mentor the development team, including a Donor Relations Coordinator and Communications Director, to ensure effective and efficient operations.
  •  Partner with contracted professionals, including a grant writer and event planner, to enhance fundraising efforts.
  •  Work closely with the communications director to develop compelling fundraising collateral and campaigns that effectively communicate the organization's mission and impact.
  •  Ensure thematic priorities expressed to donors are consistent with the vision and focus areas of the President and COO.


Reporting and Analysis:

  •  Prepare and present regular fundraising reports to the President, COO, Board of Trustees, and other stakeholders, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  •  Analyze fundraising data to inform strategy and improve performance, utilizing metrics and key performance indicators to track progress.


Event Planning and Execution:

  •  Lead the planning and execution of fundraising events, ensuring they align with organizational goals and provide meaningful engagement opportunities for donors and prospects.
  •  Collaborate with the event planner to design and implement innovative and impactful events that enhance the organization's visibility and appeal.


Qualifications:

Experience and Skills:

  •  Minimum of 5 years of relevant fundraising experience, with a proven track record of securing major gifts.
  •  Sales background is helpful, with strong skills in persuasion, negotiation, and relationship management.
  •  Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to articulate the organization's mission and vision to diverse audiences.
  •  Strong organizational and project management abilities, with a keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  •  Experience with Aplos or similar CRM systems is preferred.
  •  CFRE certification is a plus.

Work Environment:

  •  The Georgia Conservancy offers a hybrid work environment with both in-person and remote work functions.
  •  Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some evenings and weekends required for events and donor meetings.


Salary and Benefits:

  •  Competitive salary ranging from $85,000 to $100,000 annually.
