Compensation: Salary Commensurate with Experience $21-24.00 per hr



SUMMARY

The Program Coordinator maintains and manages the existing systems in place for planning, implementing, budgeting and evaluating the Epilepsy Support Network of Orange County (ESNOC) educational programs and outreach initiatives that foster an understanding of epilepsy in the Orange County community. Programs include; Program Night and Epilepsy Expert Series, in-service/public presentations, family network management, support group coordination and advocacy.


The ideal candidate for this full time position requires a friendly, warm, experienced and highly motivated person to promote the goals of Epilepsy Support Network of Orange County, including:


· Promote and provide support and education for people affected by epilepsy and their families

· Provide intake and referrals for callers/members to epilepsy specialists for the highest level of epilepsy care/treatment to improve the quality of life of those affected by epilepsy and their families

· Promote outreach, education and awareness to decrease stigma, discrimination and inequity for individuals with epilepsy, allowing them to fully engage in their community with support and understanding


In particular, programs will be designed and implemented to:

• Increase individual and public understanding about the needs of individuals with epilepsy and their family

• Promote early recognition, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy

• Promote equity and inclusion for individuals with epilepsy

• Increase awareness of the legal rights of persons with epilepsy

• Improve self-esteem and social skills of children, teens and young adults with epilepsy


RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to:

(5)60% Maintain and expand epilepsy education and support programs in Orange County

  • Program Night and Epilepsy Expert Series (Second Friday evening of each month)
  • Epilepsy 101
  • Seizure Recognition and First Aid for public and private establishments
  • Awareness building presentation to change hearts and minds about the perception of epilepsy

Coordination of support services for families affected by epilepsy including the development and maintenance of a strong parent/family network and educational/emotional support facilitation

30% Identification, development and delivery of public outreach opportunities and programs to increase support and interest in the ESNOC’s mission, goals and programs;

  • Health/Resource Fairs and Community Events
  • Media Opportunities
  • Partnering/Collaborating with other organizations/corporations

10% Budget preparation for programs and services;

· Program evaluation; program reports, statistics, strategies for program improvement

· Volunteer coordination and maintaining working relationships with volunteers;

· Provision of referrals, resources and advocacy services for those affected by epilepsy and their families;

  • Access to Medical Specialists and developmental specialists
  • Educational Support: IEP Advocacy
  • Employee/Employer vocational support
  • Distribution of ESNOC program information to epilepsy centers, neurologists, service providers, school nurses, and other non-profit organizations
  • Provide one-on-one information and support at ESNOC programs, educational events, conferences, social events, etc…

(Seasonally 50%) Help coordinate Epilepsy Walk Fundraising Event and attend required committee meetings

12. Develop, maintain and expand service measures and outcome expectations

13. Performance of other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS:

A successful Program Coordinator will be a highly motivated self-starter and quick learner who can listen to the needs of members with epilepsy in order to provide consumer-driven programs. Most importantly, a successful program coordinator will have an internal passion for helping those affected by epilepsy.


· Experience in educational programming, presentations and community outreach

· Excellent public speaking skills with the ability to represent ESNOC in a professional and ethical manner

· Knowledge of and ability to passionately communicate ESNOC’s purpose and mission

· Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills

· Proven ability in project planning and management and relationship building

· Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and handle multiple projects on various timelines

· Ability to effectively coordinate and oversee a variety of ESNOC programs involving diverse populations including individuals with: special needs, developmental/intellectual delay and differently-abled

· Maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with staff members, medical professionals, non-profit staff volunteers, donors, community members and community-based organizations and partners,

· Strong computer skills in MS Office Suite, experience with databases, graphics and social media

· Demonstrated willingness to work in varying conditions that may include infrequent weekends/evening events

· Ability to maintain and organize information, documents and contact information using data bases

· Maintains professional behavior, dress and appearance at all times

· Driver’s license, insurance, and vehicle required


EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

· Bachelor's Degree with course work in public health/administration/education

· Experience working with the public, including public speaking

· Experience with program development and evaluation

· Supervisory experience required


Other Duties:

Special Events, Fundraising/Grant Committee- Identify grant opportunities, grant support, Identify third party fundraiser opportunities


Expected Hours:

This position is full-time with usual office hours of 9:00 AM to 5:30, with some evening and weekends.

The Second Friday evening of each month hours are 1:00 to 9:30pm required for program night


Physical Requirements:

Regularly required to sit, stand, lift and/or move heavy objects
