Gallagher Executive Search & Leadership Advisors has partnered with St. Charles Health System in Bend, Oregon, in their search for a Chief Operating Officer. This is an incredible opportunity to shape the future of this growing, independent community health system with net revenues approaching $1.4 billion.


Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) will lead all operational areas for the system, to include physician practice management. In addition, this leader will oversee the execution of financial, strategic and tactical programs and services consistent with the St. Charles Health System strategic plan and in alignment with other Executive Team members.


This leader will:

  • Establish and sustain respectful, trusting relationships throughout the organization and across the region to promote a strong organizational culture focused on employees, patients, and the health of the communities served
  • Strong preference for senior leadership experience within an independent health care system and demonstrated expertise in leadership and integration of large physician enterprises
  • Be an authentic servant leader with an approachable, collaborative, empathetic leadership style based upon respect for others
  • Demonstrate the highest integrity and a strong commitment to working with the Board of Trustees and medical staff in advancing the organization


The ideal candidate will have a minimum of ten years’ senior leadership experience in healthcare systems with a proven track record of leading initiatives and driving results. The new COO will have strong leadership and influence skills with the ability to motivate and collaborate with Board Members, Medical Staff, community, and team members to accomplish the strategic goals of the organization. A thought leader with the ability to foster positivity and accountability, promote a strong organizational culture, and who is committed to excellence will be most successful. The next COO will have a master’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration or related field.
