Job Summary


The Safety Specialist provides technical and regulatory expertise to ensure compliance, safe work places, and continuous improvement of Siegwerk’s HSE programs and policies. Advise site management of compliance concerns and work with them to provide strategic direction and solutions. Adheres to all departmental/company policies and standards.


Job Responsibilities


  • Responsible for developing and maintaining Siegwerk’s safety HSE management and compliance programs.
  • Conduct all required local, county, state and federal inspections; including but not limited to SWPPP, SPCC, RCRA and air quality.
  • Complete all required HSE related operating permits including but not limited to storm water, air quality, air construction.
  • Maintain all required HSE related certifications.
  • Completion of all HSE related compliance reports, including but not limited to OSHA, Tier II, SARA 313, Title V, and Hazardous Waste.
  • Lead the site’s safety committee.
  • Implement and update, as needed, sites Emergency Response procedures.
  • Develop and implement employee training resources on safety, environmental and related topics for use by employees, supervisors, and managers.
  • Lead the plant’s risk assessment and behavior based safety program.
  • Support Siegwerk’s raw material SDS program, including review of new materials for PPE compliance.
  • Communicate HSE information to Siegwerk employees and customers.
  • Use appropriate resources to track, calculate, and analyze data in order to develop process changes and report to management.
  • Responsible for supporting incident investigation and reporting.
  • Participate in developing, scheduling, and conducting internal HSE audits and related reporting; assist in evaluating appropriate follow-up corrective action.
  • Support Regional HSE Manager in response to compliance inquiries from EPA, OSHA, DOT and federal, state and local governmental agencies.
  • Support Department Managers in the administration of Siegwerk’s HSE programs and policies.
  • Spend time in production and warehouse building relationships with team members and ensuring HSE compliance is being met.
  • Manage and monitor hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams.
  • Occasional off shift work for training or special events.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience


  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Chemistry, National Science or related field preferred but not required.
  • Minimum five years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical reasoning. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to perform a variety of computer functions is required. Must be proficient in Microsoft applications. Knowledge in SAP preferred, but not required. Must be proficient in learning new software applications.
  • Having a familiarity with the safe handling of hazardous materials would be beneficial, but not required.
  • A daily drive to improve the overall safety of the facility rather than maintain the status quo will be expected.
