Portland, United States Mill Plain Electric Full time

Mill Plain Electric Inc

POSITION PROFILE: INTERNAL OPERATIONS MANAGER

Date: 7/22/2024

ABOUT MPE:

At Mill Plain Electric, we are in the people business. For over 55 years in the Pacific Northwest, we have built a reputation as a premier electrical contractor for both the quality of our work and our people. We are extremely proud of our teams for creating a no-drama environment that fosters a strong team culture and encourages future development. Our commitment to a “work hard, play hard” mentality ensures that our employees find job satisfaction while having the time to pursue their personal interests. We serve a diverse range of industries, including Commercial, Industrial, Transportation, Healthcare, Data Centers, E-commerce, and Manufacturing. Our dedication to excellence and our team-centered approach define the WHY behind what we do—delivering exceptional service by empowering our people to excel and grow.

Background:

To identify the right candidate for this key leadership role, the Choosing Winners™ System will be utilized. During the initial brainstorming phase, DEFINE, the team considered three criteria for this search: WHO (behaviors, values, characteristics, traits); WHAT (duties, responsibilities, performance expectations); and TICKET (experience, education/training, skills). This profile is divided into four sections: Who, What, overall Performance Expectations, and the Ticket.

PART ONE: WHO

The Who defines the behaviors, characteristics, traits, and values desired in the new leader. It is expected that the new leader will accept and apply the Company’s Core values:

  1. "Do the right thing, even when no one is looking"
  2. "Be respectful"
  3. "Composure under fire"
  4. "Give a Rip, Show you care"
  5. "Got some Fire in the belly"

THE NARRATIVE:

This leader is an exceptional communicator who uses various management and leadership methods and techniques depending on the person and the situation. He/she is an excellent active listener. Being highly respectful of others, this empathetic listener asks the right questions and takes detailed notes to ensure timely and effective follow-through.

This sensible and practical leader operates from a base of common sense, keeping things simple, relevant, and real. Honest, and always acting with integrity, this humbly confident person leaves his/her ego at the door, is understanding, and quickly responds to the needs of others. Valuing the worth and dignity of all people, he/she keeps politics and drama out of the organization, fostering an environment of mutual respect for the ideas and opinions of others.

A hard worker, he/she is smart, efficient, productive, and very process-driven to (GSD) "Get Stuff Done." Recognizing the importance of placing decision-making at the knowledge base, this person is a servant leader who puts the needs of MPE and others first, helps individuals develop and optimize their performance, and is willing to learn from others. A calm and patient leader, he/she is self-aware and always exercises self-control, leading by example and building trusting relationships among team members.

Enthusiastic and highly energetic, this person enjoys coaching and is also coachable. Having fire in the belly and a strong personal drive, this person is friendly but firm, and (GSD) “Gets Stuff Done.” Not a yes person, he/she fully understands accountability for self and others and is highly effective in dealing with conflicts within the organization. A strategic thinker, well-organized, and always prepared, this person is highly effective at translating the vision into action and is a motivating force to solve issues at the root.
