Job ID: | Services LLC

As part of the Amazon-wide Global Talent Management and Compensation team, the Organizational Planning and Effectiveness team's mission is to enable Amazon to build healthy and effective organizations with the right leaders, in the right roles, at the right time. We develop philosophies, mechanisms and products that guide leaders to inspect and make data-driven decisions to improve their organizational operating models, structures, and executive talent.

As Principal Talent Management Leader for Organizational Planning and Effectiveness, you'll own defining the long-term vision for how succession management, executive talent development, executive talent movement, and VP promotions come together in a connected annual rhythm to accelerate business strategy. You'll also own defining the long-term vision for how we measure and help leaders improve their organization's effectiveness.

You'll build mechanisms to work closely with talent management, PXT, organizational effectiveness experts and business leaders in each line of business to understand the nuances of their businesses and how executive talent management and organizational effectiveness processes and products could help solve their business challenges more effectively. You'll partner with our research scientists to advance our understanding of executive talent management and organizational effectiveness at Amazon, and constantly scan academia and industry best practices for innovations we can learn from. You'll frame decisions for Amazon's most senior HR and business leaders through writing crisp, data-driven documents and facilitating discussion that codify our executive talent management and organizational effectiveness processes. You'll be a strategic thought partner and teacher to the team, providing product managers, UX designers, and engineers with a real-world perspective on the fundamentals of talent management and the nuances of executing talent processes. You'll write guidance and develop support resources for business leaders and their PXT partners to implement executive talent management and organizational effectiveness processes, then work with product managers on our team to embed guidance and processes in our products.

Key job responsibilities

• Uncovering the root causes of pain points for executives and their HR partners

• Sourcing, sharing, and adapting talent management innovations from industry and academia

• Defining the long-term vision for Amazon's peculiar executive talent management and organizational effectiveness philosophies and processes

• Influencing HR and business leaders on philosophical and process decisions related to executive talent management and organizational effectiveness

• Advising and training product, design, and engineering partners on both strategic needs and practical realities of executing executive talent management and organizational design

• Developing and leading ongoing mechanisms to create an executive talent management and organizational effectiveness community of practice with talent management leaders across Amazon

• Designing research studies in partnership with Research Scientists to advance Amazon's understanding of how to improve organizational effectiveness and executive talent management

About the team
The Organizational Planning and Effectiveness team formed in November 2023 to create a single-threaded focus within Global Talent Management and Compensation. The team owns two enterprise-wide products: Rise, a succession planning product that helps leaders identify talent for critical roles and plan for future talent moves; and Blueprint, an organizational design product in prototype that helps leaders rapidly model alternate scenarios for structures, roles, and reporting relationships. The team is building a new enterprise-wide executive talent management product that helps leaders translate business strategy into executive talent needs, then identify, develop, and match successors to the right roles. This growing team partners with Research Science, UX Design, and additional talent management teams across the company to build innovative experiences for Amazon's leaders and their HR partners.
