Responsibilities:


Cross-train, lead, and develop a team of underwriting associates to promote maximum productivity, engagement, succession planning, and overall contribution to the strategic organizational goals.

Approves and makes denial recommendations for 1-4 family mortgage loans. Assist managers in underwriting scenarios. Underwrite loans as required.

Analyzes extremely complex and diversified credit and property documentation to assess overall risk to the bank, to ensure that sound lending decisions are made

Ensures loan file compliance with Investor/Insurer guidelines, Federal Regulations, and bank policy

Responds to exceptions noted by the Internal Bank Audit and Quality Assurance Reports

Works with the Third-party Origination Manager, Retail Originating and Processing Manager and Branch Loan Coordinator to assess the training requirements, and assists in the training of home office and Branch Lending personnel

Ensures that the loan procedures and policies are disseminated to all Branch Lending personnel. Review the underwriting practices and procedures to maximize efficiency and ensure compliance with loan underwriting

Resolves Federal Loan Examiner's negative audit findings (whenever feasible) and clears any loan discrepancies within lending authority.

Ensures all loan approval conditions are met


Exercise the usual authority as manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, salary recommendations, promotions and terminations, Review Quality Control reports with underwriters to ensure they are aware of any deficiencies in their underwriting.

Work with all underwriting personnel on best practices and common underwriting deficiencies. Ensure efficiency and continually seek means to improve overall process, systems, and pipeline management

Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Must have 10+ years of mortgage experience, including a combination of mortgage risk management mitigation, processing, underwriting, loan production, mortgage closing loan procedures, real estate title insurance guidelines and servicing of mortgage loans

Must have 5+ years of experience managing a variety of mortgage related positions, including an underwriting team

Must have expertise level knowledge of in FHA, VA, FNMA, FHLMC, USDA Rural Housing, and other investor lending guidelines

Must have comprehensive knowledge of automated underwriting systems, such as FNMA Desktop Underwriter and FHLMC Loan Projector

Must have comprehensive knowledge of underwriting guidelines for mortgage loans of various agencies like FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA and USDA Rural Housing

Must know all consumer disclosure requirements and compliance regulations regarding home loans

Must be able to interpret and administer complex compliance laws and regulations

Must have basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel including the ability to create and maintain spreadsheets

Must exercise exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills, including logical reasoning without frequently referring to others

Must have outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively

Must be detail oriented and demonstrate good organizational skills

Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision

Must be able to multi-task and exercise solid time management principles to prioritize workload
