Job Description

  • Offer emotional, spiritual, and guidance support to residents. Ensure compliance with The Salvation Army's established policies and procedures, such as the Employee manual, Shelter Guide, and resident guidelines booklets.
  • Enforce and hold clients responsible for following shelter guidelines, and take disciplinary measures when necessary.
  • Conduct intake and assessment interviews while staying informed about shelter documents and intake paperwork.
  • Administer breathalyzer and urinalysis tests when required, taking appropriate actions and documenting results.
  • Supervise daily resident chores and room responsibilities.
  • Perform various daily tasks including laundry (bed linens and towels), meal preparation and cleanup (with meal temperatures logged), daily sweeping and mopping, bathroom and shower cleaning, and monitoring resident laundry and facility security.
  • Manage all participants in the shelter program, a diverse population with special needs.
  • Supervise client activities while overseeing facility maintenance.
  • Plan and lead special programs as assigned.
  • Take charge of clients' ongoing development according to their service plans.
  • Make recommendations for client workshops and development opportunities.
  • Coordinate client activities and provide guidance.
  • Prepare TSA statistical data reports and maintain necessary logs and reports.
  • Implement and adhere to department budgets.
  • Create and oversee the department's annual budget in collaboration with the Divisional Finance Department and Divisional Social Services Director.
  • Be prepared for additional shifts with short notice and work any assigned shift.
  • Participate in outdoor or off-property trainings as directed.
  • Represent The Salvation Army Decatur IL professionally.
  • Assist in the training of future staff and clients.
  • Offer professional and courteous guidance to clients.
  • Coordinate and maintain intake and filing of case files and notes.
  • Perform any other assigned duties.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Support The Salvation Army's Doctrines, mission statement, values, and position statements.
  • Preferred CPR First Aid and Emergency First Aid training.
  • Certification from The Salvation Army Safe from Harm trainer.
  • Willingness to maintain a flexible schedule and report for assigned shifts.

Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience: Prior experience with social service agencies or related field beneficial but not mandatory.

Physical Demands/ Work Environment:
This position involves light to moderate physical work. The individual must be able to lift a minimum of 35 pounds, up to 50 pounds in certain circumstances. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and focus. The work environment may have a low to moderate noise level.
