The primary objective of this position is the preparation of cadavers and anatomical specimens that are donated to the UC Davis Body Donation Program. These cadavers and specimens are subsequently allocated for study to various internal and external teaching and research programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduated from an accredited ABFSE college of mortuary science CA Driver's License in good standing. CA Embalmer's License or ability to obtain within 6 months CA Funeral Director's License or ability to obtain with 6 months Crematory Operators Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months Effective verbal and written communication skills To be knowledgeable of arrangement documents and guidelines established for the BDP Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality Ability to learn and perform dissections of humans for anatomic study in a skillful and efficient manner Manual dexterity to perform technical duties Ability to lift and carry 100+ pounds with assistance Ability to learn to use power tools to prosect cadavers To be knowledgeable of arrangement documents and guidelines established for the BDP/ASD Demonstrated computer skills to use database, spreadsheet and word programs Knowledge of appropriate anatomy, biology, and chemistry for embalming, disarticulation and skeletonization procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

Complete a course in CPR, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens. 5 years of anatomical preparation in a donor program Experience with UC Proprietary database management system Knowledge of applicable State and Federal laws governing Funeral and Cemeteries, Cal-OSHA, Business and Professions code, Code of Regulations, Whole Body and Organ Donation, Illness and Injury Prevention, Death Registration, Health and Safety. Knowledge of the following: Knowledge of California Health department regulations on vital statistics and the filing of death certificated and disposition permits

The department supply UC Davis and other approved end-users with human anatomical specimens for education and research.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Medical monitoring to stay compliant with UC Davis policy and procedures. Position will participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System. Use of respirator and other appropriate personal protection equipment. Will be required to work nights and/or weekends. Ability to travel as needed for conferences, meetings, site inspections, deliveries or removals. Ability to work with human remains and preservative chemicals such as formaldehyde and phenol on a daily basis Ability to work with cremation equipment with potassium hydroxide

Special Requirements

This position is a critical position and subject to a background check and drug screen. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history, identity checks and drug screen. As a condition of employment, you will be required to comply with the University of California Policy on Vaccination Programs, as may be amended or revised from time to time. Federal, state, or local public health directives may impose additional requirements.
