Job Description

Alabama State University is seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Director of Accounting/Associate Comptroller within the Business & Finance department. This position will oversee the Accounting Services function, ensuring adherence to accounting principles and practices for efficient and timely financial transactions and documentation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise Accounting Services employees, overseeing tasks such as monthly profit and loss statement preparation, quarterly financial reports, and financial statement preparation
  • Participate in Financial Accounting System updates
  • Manage the budget for Accounting Services
  • Review and approve general ledger entries
  • Coordinate with student financial aid for proper fund dispersal and accounting
  • Ensure accuracy in financial record reconciliation and reporting
  • Attend relevant meetings, workshops, and seminars
  • Prepare performance evaluations for subordinates
  • Coordinate with audit agencies during financial record audits
  • Implement new accounting standards and procedures
  • Perform other assigned duties
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting with 10 years of relevant work experience, or a Master's degree in Accounting or MBA with 5 years of related experience. Working knowledge of accounting principles, ability to solve complex accounting problems, and supervisory experience required. CPA preferred.
