Meal Preparation :
Prepare and serve nutritious and appealing lunches and dinners for students and staff, for seven days a week (Food prep for weekend needs to happen before the weekend).
Ensure meals are prepared in a timely manner, maintaining high standards of food quality and safety.
Program Management :
Oversee the school's food program, ensuring compliance with all NSLP regulations and guidelines.
Develop and implement policies and procedures for food service operations to ensure efficiency and compliance.
Manage inventory, ordering, and storage of food supplies to ensure freshness and minimize waste.
Health and Safety :
Maintain a clean and organized kitchen and dining area, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
Conduct regular inspections of kitchen equipment and report any maintenance or repair needs.
Ensure all food handling, preparation, and storage practices meet health department standards.
Nutritional Compliance :
Design balanced meal plans that cater to the nutritional needs of students, including those with special dietary requirements.
Monitor and document meal components and portion sizes to ensure compliance with NSLP requirements.
Stay updated on changes to NSLP guidelines and adjust menus and practices accordingly.
Budget Management :
Develop and manage the food program budget, ensuring cost-effective purchasing and use of resources.
Track expenses and revenues, providing regular financial reports to school administration.
Apply for and manage NSLP reimbursements and other funding opportunities.
Communication and Collaboration :
Work closely with school administration, to address any concerns or suggestions regarding the food program.
Communicate menu plans and special events to students and staff effectively.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience :
High school diploma or equivalent; culinary arts degree or certification preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in food service management, preferably in a school or institutional setting.
Proven experience with the National School Lunch Program and knowledge of its regulations and requirements.
Skills and Abilities :
Strong culinary skills with the ability to prepare a variety of nutritious and appealing meals.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to manage a budget and maintain accurate financial records.
Strong leadership and team-building skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Certifications :
Food Handler's certification required; ServSafe certification preferred.
CPR and First Aid certification is a plus.
Working Conditions:
Full-time position with flexible hours to cover meal preparation and service seven days a week.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Physical requirements include standing for long periods, lifting heavy objects, and working in a kitchen environment.
