As an Electrical Engineer you will design, build, program, and support firmware for systems such as motorized zoom lenses, stages, iris, shutters, heater controls, and filter wheels.

This position requires the individual to have a well-rounded background with knowledge in embedded systems and motor control.

The candidate should have understanding of motion control features such as encoders, limit switches, stepper motors, brushed motors, and brushless dc motors.

The ability to program microcontrollers in C/C++ is required to maintain and improve existing systems. Knowledge of SPI and I2C interfaces to sub-components is a must.

The candidate should be able to read and understand schematics as well as component datasheets in order to develop and maintain the firmware.

The prototype volumes we deal with require a candidate who is capable of thriving in an environment where each project is custom and has the demands of a new design.

Having experience in version control such as git is important to implement and maintain a robust version control system moving forward.

If you enjoy working with hardware, firmware, supporting existing systems, and collaborating with a diverse set of professionals across different engineering groups and business functions then this is the job for you.

Business hours are M-F 8am-6pm.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Write firmware for microcontrollers/microprocessors
Debug and troubleshoot embedded systems, motors, and sensors used to control motorized systems.
Implement and maintain a firmware version control system for new and existing firmware
Familiarity with reading and understanding electronic schematics to facilitate efficient firmware designs and debugging.

Maintain professional and technical knowledge by consistently educating oneself in areas of science necessary for completing the projects and tasks at hand.

Work both independently and as a team to complete projects.

Educate other team members and engineers in motion control and other fundamental principles to build the technical capability of the company as a whole.

SPECIALIST FUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE
Proficiency in embedded systems development, including C/C++ programming. Python and RTOS experience are a plus.
Familiarity with electro-mechanical concepts such as motor control, reading encoders, limit switches, and thermistors.
Proficiency with embedded systems protocols including SPI, I2C, USB, ADCs, UART, and CAN.
Familiarity with ARM and AVR processors and low-level driver development.
Experience implementing control loops and feedback systems.
Familiarity with implementing GUI solutions for end-user interactions is a plus.
Familiarity with version control software such as GIT is a plus.
Capability in reading and understanding component level specification sheets.
Working knowledge of basic mechanics is required.
Soldering and wiring experience is a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE
BS in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
At least 3 years of experience in motion control firmware or embedded systems.
Physical Demands
The ability to lift 40 pounds.
