We are seeking an experienced EHS Specialist II to join our team at ICU Medical. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating, coordinating, implementing, managing, and auditing environmental, health, and safety programs to meet internal requirements as well as compliance with government regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Review and implement OSHA safety, emergency preparedness, environmental, industrial hygiene, and hazardous material programs to site level standards.
- Conduct EHS evaluations for new projects and equipment modifications.
- Investigate incidents and complaints of employees regarding safety, health, environment, and industrial hygiene, ergonomics, etc. and make recommendations for improvements as appropriate.
- Develop and conduct EHS training as needed (New Employee Orientation, Respirator, Lockout / Tag out (LOTO), Confined Space Entry, Electrical Safety, and Machine Guarding).
- Perform follow-up and ensure closure of safety and health recommendations as assigned by manager.
- Support Emergency Response Team (ERT), training, and response for both sites.
- Perform various safety and environmental inspections for EHS Programs such as Storm water, SPCC, Hazardous Waste, Spill Response, SCBA, slings, ladders, safety compliance.
- Coordinate hazardous material shipments and complete environmental and hazardous material regulatory reporting with manager oversight.
- Responsible for chemical hazard awareness, hazmat shipment oversight, and contractor safety programs.
- Assist and conduct ergonomic assessments and provide necessary guidance.
- Serve on-site Safety Teams and assist in improvement activities and projects.
- Follow up on inspection program findings and hazard reports as assigned.
- Conduct risk assessments and equipment surveys for safeguards, machine guarding, lock-out requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Understand various OSHA, EPA, TCEQ, DOT, IATA regulations.
- Strong computer and application proficiency needed, as well as knowledge of EHS management systems.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadlines consistently.
- Excellent speaking skills with ability to communicate with all levels of employees and present/facilitate training.
- Demonstrated project management skills of organizing tasks to successfully complete projects within selected time frames established.
- First Aid/CPR, other medical certifications, training certifications, or emergency response experience preferred.
- Related work at a site with Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) preferred.
- ASP, CSP, CHMM, CIH, Environment-related, or similar certifications preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- A bachelor's degree in environmental health and safety (EHS), Engineering, EHS Management, or related discipline with three years of experience in both safety and environmental roles in a manufacturing environment.
- In lieu of an applicable educational degree, six or more relevant years of EHS field experience will be considered.
The successful candidate will work in office areas, manufacturing areas, outdoors, controlled and cleanroom environments, and laboratories. May be exposed to noise, chemicals, and weather. Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). Must be able to certify in confined space entry. Lifting requirements of at least 25 lbs.; Infrequent lifting to 50 lbs. Ability to walk up and down stairs and stand for 1 to 2 hours at a time. Required to support the business including on occasion, 2nd & 3rd shifts and weekends. Requires travel less than 5% of the time.
