The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is hiring a Senior Water Quality Analyst for the State Office located in Boise, Idaho.


Salary Range:
$ $38.82

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review total maximum daily load (TMDL) projects and documents using data analysis and software modeling.
  • Apply advanced theories and principles to projects for the DEQ's Surface Water Program, analyzing surface water quality pollutants including sediment, bacteria, nutrients, and metals.
  • Act as a temperature pollution specialist, using stream modeling programs to establish input parameters, interpret model output, and incorporate shade data from riparian plant communities into daily heat loads for TMDLs.
  • Perform biological, environmental, and water quality data analysis and interpretation as requested.
  • Serve as a Quality Assurance Officer in DEQ's Quality Assurance/Quality Control process.
  • Perform technical lead role responsibilities for assigned projects and tasks.
  • Perform selective field studies as requested, including but not limited to, TMDL fieldwork (McNeils, Pathfinder, sediment erosion inventories (SEIs)).
  • Train and mentor new TMDL staff.

Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a Bachelor's degree in the physical or biological sciences, or a related field;

AND

At least six years of professional experience designing and implementing scientific applications, investigations, studies such as chemical, physical, or biological monitoring, corrective action plans, analysis, and assessment.

ORPossession of a Master's degree in the sciences or related field;
ANDfour years' experience as defined above;ORPossession of a Doctor of Philosophy in the sciences or related field;
ANDtwo years' experience as defined above.

Required Specialty Minimum Qualification
Good knowledge of Surface Water.

Typically met by at least two (2) years of full-time work experience in surface water quality such as reviewing, designing or implementing monitoring projects and quality assurance project plans; watershed, riparian area, aquatic habitat, water quality or environmental assessments, pollutant sources assessments, including municipal, industrial and storm water point sources and non-point source activities, such as forestry, mining, agriculture and grazing.

Requires at least four (4) years of experience preparing scientific or technical reports
ANDat least two (2) years of experience presenting scientific, technical, or regulatory information to students, the general public, local governments, and professional organizations.

Desired Specialty Minimum Qualification
Two (2) years of full-time work experience negotiating environmental actions.

This experience may be as a technical advisor negotiating environmental plans, legislative issues, rules and regulations;ORApproximately two (2) years full-time work experience coordinating multi-interest committees to produce consensus or dispute resolution within the regulated community.

Requires at least two (2) years of experience leading committees or work groups involving federal, state, or local government representatives to collaboratively plan and implement statewide activities; or three (3) years of experience successfully implementing interagency collaborative projects involving the collection and management of water quality data.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and work on a computer for 2-4 hours at a time.
  • Ability to bend and reach for filing purposes.
  • Some periods of heavy reading and typing are required.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds when working with file boxes.

They may be exposed to heavy equipment, loud noise, and other hazards associated with proximity to heavy equipment. Field conditions may require traveling great distances from areas with no logistical support or emergency facilities. The person in this position may be required to backpack up to 50 pounds.
