FUNCTION: The role of the Accessibility Coordinator is to ensure that the college provides appropriate accommodations for students with documented disabilities. The Accessibility Counselor also works to enhance the campus infrastructure to effectively cater to all students with disabilities.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Offer educational planning, registration assistance, and support in understanding and fulfilling institutional requirements for students receiving disability services.
  • Manage the accommodation application process for students with disabilities and ensure faculty and staff provide the necessary accommodations.
  • Track and confirm services provided to eligible students through Banner and Maxient by maintaining comprehensive student records as per federal regulations.
  • Develop and execute educational programs related to disability services, mental health issues, and other relevant topics that could impact student success.
  • Guide students to external agencies for assessments, outside mental health resources, and other community services.
  • Collaborate with the Director to strategize, implement, and assess the department's programs and services.

Additional Job Functions:

  • Collaborate with counterparts on other campuses to meet the College's annual goals and objectives.
  • Act as a department liaison and participate in college committees as needed.
  • Engage in continuous professional development opportunities.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Facilitate effective communication and problem-solving strategies.
  • Possess a solid understanding of a wide range of disabilities.
  • Familiarity with the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) and the college's TSI-related policies and procedures.
  • Knowledgeable about FERPA laws and regulations.
  • Implement processes and systems to enhance customer support services.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using Banner.
  • Familiar with university transfer requirements, reverse transfers, and articulation agreements.
  • Plan and execute targeted events and activities on campus.
  • Adhere to ethical principles and ensure fair treatment of all individuals.
  • Implement practices to minimize institutional liability exposure.
  • Maintain accessibility and advising records as per professional regulations.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and ability to manage multiple projects within deadlines.
  • Available for occasional night and weekend activities.

Required Education:

  • Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field from a regionally accredited college/university.

Required Experience and Knowledge:

  • Experience working with students with disabilities.
  • Interpreting psychoeducational reports and other disability documentation.
  • Understanding of assistive technology.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws regarding higher education and disability.
  • Experience in promoting student success, retention, and completion.

Preferred Experience:

  • Bilingual candidates are welcome to apply.

Preferred Licenses/Certifications:

  • Licensed Professional Counselor (L.P.C.), Licensed Master or Clinical Social Worker (LMSW or LCSW), National Certified Counselor (N.C.C.), or Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) is preferred.
  • All licenses and certifications must adhere to Texas guidelines and regulations for counseling practices.

Note: This role requires on-site work with limited remote work opportunities.

Salary Grade: 118
