Purpose of Position

The Environmental Learning Center (ELC) Director leads, plans, and supervises all activities related to the Environmental Learning Center. This position provides leadership and direction to part-time classified, and part-time faculty, and other part-time personnel, and ensures that departmental systems and processes are in place to meet the college goals and the ELC goals.

Essential Job Functions
  • Organizational Management (55%)
  • Supervise and mentor ELC staff (administrative support, K-12 educators, continuing education program, community gardens, marketing, and others); develop job descriptions, hire, assign work and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Provide oversight to all ELC programs and operations, ensuring that programs and services meet the defined needs and objectives, and align with strategic goals.
  • Work with Campus Services, and other college staff, to maintain and enhance the ELC grounds, wetland and buildings.
  • Ensure completion of internal and external reporting requirements.

Communications and Relationship Building (20%)

  • Maintain and build new partnerships with local and regional governments, educational institutions, business, and other community partners, in order to solicit feedback and further educational outreach.
  • Ensure the college community remains informed and engaged with the ELC through staff and student participation in programs and enjoyment of the facilities.
  • Ensure the support and engagement with the broader community through staff involvement in outreach activities, such as newsletters, and community education events; and by providing a welcoming environment for all visitors.
  • Ensure the ELC has a vibrant volunteer program that engages with community members, college staff, students, and partner organizations, in order to provide ecosystem benefits through a healthy wetland, assist with ELC educational programming, and to build relationships.
  • Oversee and provide final approval of marketing strategies and resources to be used by all ELC programs.

Financial Management and Fundraising (15%)

  • Develop and manage annual budgets for ELC Enterprise fund, as well as CCC Foundation funds and grants. Oversee the accurate tracking and reporting of revenues and expenses, fund transfer, grant reporting, and other financial reporting.
  • Responsible for leadership and implementation of annual development plan in order to generate sufficient funding to cover all expenses. Funding sources include: sponsorships from partner organizations, grant, revenue from programs, facility rentals, individual and corporate donations and payouts from endowed funds.
  • Oversee and assist with the writing of proposals, and negotiating contracts. Ensure the process is smooth and the contracts are profitable.
  • Manage reporting to and invoicing of funders, working with staff to ensure that necessary data is collected.
  • Develop program pricing structure.

Leadership (10%)

  • Provide leadership and support in regards to the strategic planning and delivering of programs that are innovative, responsive to a demonstrated need, and excellent in quality.
  • Provide leadership in ensuring alignment with college strategic priorities, including: delivering excellence in all ELC education programs, providing opportunities for historically underserved populations to engage with ELC programs and strengthening connections with the community.
  • Identify needs/opportunities for innovative educational programming to meet the needs of K-12 students/teachers, working professionals and community members, through a variety of activities, including: discussion with advisory committee, community partners and staff.
  • Play a lead role as spokesperson for the organization and support collaborations with other organizations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology or any other related field AND at least 5-years of directly related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience with program leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching and curriculum development.
  • Experience managing and directing staff workloads, expectations and performance.
  • Experience in developing and managing fundraising strategies
  • Demonstrated Ability to develop community relationships and partnerships by build lasting relationships community partners

Working Conditions

The position requires minimal (20-40%) ability to use dexterity and fine motor skills assemble, build or repair machines or other objects. Frequent (51-80% of the time) use of office equipment.

The position requires moderate (40-60%) physical effort such as lifting, carrying, or movement, etc. Movements required to complete work require high degree of speed, agility, hand eye coordination and equipment operation.

The work environment is usually well-protected, with minimal hazards or obstacles (5-20%). There is little or minimal element of personal risk or hazard. Job conditions are usually comfortable, with minimal (5-20%) issues of confinement, temperature change, incident of noise, or interactions of a disagreeable nature, inside/outside work, dirty conditions, exposure to contagious disease, etc. Position may have minimal responsibility for driving.

Responsible for the direct supervision of 3-8 FTE (part-time) employees.
