This role is for an experienced Mechanical Design Manager. In this role you will be responsible for leading a mechanical design team of power transformer designers.

This candidate must have a deep understanding and experience with transformer design, production, and quality control processes, coupled outstanding leadership skills to lead a team.

The candidate will be accountable for delivering the MD documents, design innovations and the optimization of the end products in compliance with Siemens Energy design rules, quality standards, cost position and time schedule.

Candidate will be located at Siemens Energy Transformers Factory at Charlotte, North Carolina, USA

How You'll Make an Impact

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers involved in mechanical design and development of power transformers. Implement the application of core technologies in mechanical design of transformers, ensuring innovation, on-time delivery and optimization.

The MD team will prepare customer documentation like general outline, shipping/transport, valve schedule, etc.

and perform detailed mechanical design, development and analysis of the core, clamping, leads, Winding & WAB, tank and externals of transformers and its sub-assemblies & components.

Use 2D and 3D CAD software to model assemblies and individual parts and generate engineering drawings and bills of material.

The team will prepare specifications and order components and materials related to MD.


Manager will ensure and develop MD processes & tools for planning, task scheduling, interface management, resource allocation, design information release, organizational change, design checking, implementation of checklists, quality gates and ensuring high level of productivity and on-time delivery.

Also, support problem/failure analysis. resolution and lessons learnt.


Develop knowledge of MD team on transformer design rules, CAD skills, use of design calculation tools and simulation tools for advanced calculation like structural, seismic, electrostatic analysis.


Promote collaboration of MD team with other departments like sales, electrical design, purchase, manufacturing, quality, global design rules and R&D efforts etc.


Support implementation of the concept of resource sharing with cost-effective countries to optimize engineering labor hours costs without compromising quality.

Implement MD team ramp-up plans, training programs for new technologies, ensuring teams are well-equipped and skilled for implementation.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering or related field is required. MBA would be an added advantage.
  • Proven experience (10+ years) in a managerial role in the power transformer mechanical design dept.
  • Experience of performing MD of transformers for at least 5 years eg. core clamping/leads/tank/cooling etc.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with a track record of effectively leading MD teams.
  • User of 3D CAD software (eg. CREO/PROe/Inventor), PDM Link or Teamcentre, 2D CAD (eg. AUTOCAD) and software tools to create Bill of materials eg. SAP
  • Able to understand mechanical simulations like structural, seismic, CFD (eg. using ANSYS, CREO simulate)
  • Familiar with the American & international standards (eg. IEEE, ANSI, IEC) related to transformers, transformer components, and materials.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English with the ability to collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, other partners, and customers.
  • Self-motivated to produce high quality results within the time allocated, with limited supervision.
  • Good experience of working with Global Engineering teams in project execution
  • Proven ability to drive innovation, implement process improvements, and co-ordination with manufacturing, suppliers, and customer.
