GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

CareerAbility's employment services are the core of what we do, ensuring individuals are matched with opportunities that fit their interests, skills, and needs, receive the necessary support to acclimate to the work environment, and are set up for long-term success.

The Employment Specialist is considered a lead job coach who is responsible for supporting CareerAbility in all aspects of employment supports including: employment, job retention, training, volunteering, and discovery. The Employment Specialist typically supports individuals who are in customized employment settings but may also support others who are building their pre-vocational skills or in individual/group supported employment or volunteering. Establishing rapport and relationships with employers to ensure successful placements is a key component to the role, as well as building positive rapport with individuals. The Employment Specialist implements job coaching strategies with individuals to support success on the work site. They complete reports and task analysis, vocational progress notes, and required documentation.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION
  • Provides job coaching and stabilization support to individuals in one-on-one and in small groups to achieve their personal and career development goals.
  • Teaches and models skills necessary for individuals to perform job duties. Upholds vocational goals and job interests of individuals, as well as documents observations as needed.
  • Maintains effective communication with employers, caseload, and key stakeholders.
  • Provides on-the-job supports and assistance with transportation arrangements (i.e. travel training) as necessary for the individuals to engage in services.
  • Provides job coaching, on-the-job training, and assists with adjustment and transition to the work environment to support job retention.
  • May support site development efforts for assigned caseload or general public relations.
  • Advocates for caseload to employers/coworkers regarding the individual's strengths, accommodations, and needs, when/if needed.
  • Provides transportation for individuals in circumstances when public transportation cannot be arranged.
  • Supports Employment Services including working with Career Transition Specialists with job coaching and employment support.
  • Completes progress reports and documentation as required – reports, Setworks, billing, etc. Documents consistently and accurately all client activities and outcomes. May support administrative tasks in this regard for the department.
  • Attends and actively participates in client progress and planning meetings.
  • May support the training of Job Coaches.
  • Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling, ABA, Human Services, or related field and/or a minimum of 2 years' related job coaching or industry experience.
  • Ideal candidates are endorsed by ACRE in Customized Employment and have an active credential in this capacity. Familiarity with customized employment as defined by U.S. Department of Labor/Office of Disability Employment Policy, APSE & Employment First principles. Knowledge of state employer incentives and other incentive programs is beneficial.
  • Must have excellent communication and writing skills, teaching ability, display empathy toward individual needs, and balance numerous account relationships.
  • Knowledge and understanding of adults with developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders and the employment challenges and opportunities for this population. Experience as an employment support professional (CESP) preferred.
  • Ability to effectively balance the needs of two individuals: the employer and potential employee (i.e., client) to ensure effectiveness in placements.
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, independent problem solver; prefers variety in their work assignments.
  • Computer skills – word, excel, web-based, and database experience required.
  • High level of integrity and commitment to Chapel Haven's values.
  • Openness to learning and willingness to give and receive feedback.
  • Valid driver's license with personal vehicle and acceptable driving record. Daily use of insured and reliable personal vehicle. Public Service License (PSL) preferred or eligible to obtain.
