Education Assistant (Temporary, Part-Time)

  • Education & Public ProgramsReporting to the Director of Youth & Family Programs, the Education Assistant supports the Education & Public Program Department's vision that everyone has access to art by providing outstanding customer service, welcoming intergenerational audiences to the museum, inviting LA County youth to join the museum's free youth membership program, engaging with program participants of all ages in art making activities and classes, and issuing museum entrance tickets to NexGenLA families. The Education Assistant supports Family Programs staff and Teaching Artists with the preparation of inperson programs. Performs other duties or projects as assigned. LACMA's Education & Public Programs department produces a broad range of programs and resources for audiences of all ages. Education programs include art classes, dropin art making programs, and offsite communitybased programs. Public programs engage adult audiences with LACMA's permanent collection, exhibitions, and other relevant topics through talks, film screenings, performances, and docent tours.
    Responsibilities
  • Actively demonstrates a guestfirst attitude (positive and friendly) by exemplifying excellent internal and external guest service skills at all times with all ages, especially kids, families, and older adults
  • Actively promote the LACMA free youth membership program
  • Maintain a conversational knowledge of LACMA's general policies and procedures and the exhibition and programming schedule
  • Share factual, educational, and necessary information with colleagues, visitors and members via excellent written and verbal communications
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance
  • Attend various training sessions as scheduled
  • Operate computer and Tessitura (training provided) member dashboard while maintaining a strict attention to accuracy
  • Escalate any guest service issues, complaints, or unanswerable questions to the Director, Youth & Family Programs

Benefits

  • The expected hourly pay for this Los Angeles, CA based position is $19.50. Subject to change.

Qualifications

  • At least one year of relevant experience in a high volume and customer service focused setting
  • Plus, but not requiredfluency in other languages besides English, artmaking skills, art history or arts education knowledge
  • Must operate with attention to detail, creativity, have excellent problemsolving skills, be selfmotivated, and have strong organizational skills while managing a continuous workflow
  • Strong skills in ticketing software, preferably in Tessitura
  • Basic math skills
  • Comfortable working both collaboratively and independently
  • Curious about making museums accessible
  • Open availability including holidays, nights, weekdays, and weekends
