What You Will Do

Come join our team The Metrology Program and Calibration Laboratory (MPCL) Group Leader will serve as a member of the Institutional Quality and Performance Assurance (IQPA) management team to plan, coordinate, and manage metrology program, calibration laboratory operations, and programmatic interface activities with our customers. We are seeking a highly motivated self-starter with advanced knowledge of ISO17025, who can lead programs providing process and system evaluations to validate compliance. The MPCL Group Leader will identify opportunities for improvement and develop/implement creative and compliant solutions to a variety of customer service and calibration laboratory operations challenges. The MPCL delivers the highest quality metrology program and calibration services to our customers to ensure simultaneous excellence. The Group Leader will report to the IQPA Division Leader.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Management of the implementation of the ISO17025 accredited Quality Management System requirements and the MPCL Quality Assurance Plan.
  • Ensuring operations are compliant with DOE 414.1D, DOE Contractor Standards Laboratory requirements, and ISO17025 requirements. Overseeing the planning and approval of procurement processes and activities, planning, and coordinating training opportunities for staff, communicating with human resources, and interfacing with the NNSA Primary Standards Laboratory (PSL) in Albuquerque, NM.
  • Interpreting requirements, engaging in strategic planning, and managing day-to-day business operations of the group.
  • Supporting the Laboratory mission by providing expert level quality support, executing strategic leadership, facilitating performance improvement, strengthening the quality culture, and advancing the Laboratory's growth as a learning organization.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:

Technical Leadership
Expert-level experience leading technical operations and demonstrating effective decision-making and creative problem-solving including skills in researching and recommending alternative solutions to problems and the ability to clarify technical program requirements for a tailored application.

Staffing and Budget Experience
Experience as a line manager or senior advisor in the planning and execution of developing and implementing staffing and budget plans, and then delivering the necessary support to programs with diverse needs.

Collaboration and Coalition Building
Advanced experience with team building and collaboration to develop, implement, and manage innovative requirements-based process improvements.

Communication
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills that includes reporting on operations and business programs to Federal oversight partners and program owners, higher-level management, customers, and stakeholders.

Quality Program Management
Expert-level knowledge implementing quality programs, preferably in support of nuclear facility operations or programs. Lead work activities that provide integration of 10 CFR 830 Subpart A Quality Assurance Requirements, DOE Order 414.1D Quality Assurance, or Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) Consensus Standard.

Leadership/Influence
Expert-level experience managing change and demonstrated ability to influence senior management and stakeholders regarding program implementation and support planning.

Clearance
The ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance, which typically requires U.S. citizenship.

Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree and 12 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience in engineering, metrology and calibration laboratory operations, or quality programs.

Desired Qualifications:
Metrology/Calibration Laboratory Operations
Advanced knowledge of DOE Contractor Standards Laboratory or ISO 17025 accredited calibration laboratory operations and metrology programs, to include proficiency in IndySoft calibration management software.

LANL Mission/DOE/NNSA
Familiarity with the LANL mission and programs to include NQA-1 implementation, DOE 414.1D. Experience working closely with DOE/NNSA.

Clearance
Active DOE Q Clearance.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
