This role involves overseeing maintenance technicians in their daily tasks to uphold plant safety standards and meet business goals. The Lead Mechanic is accountable for ensuring that standard work procedures are carried out for each shift, supporting the team in both preventive and corrective maintenance activities.

This position plays a crucial part in implementing the company's maintenance and reliability strategy to drive business outcomes and meet customer expectations.


Core Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Take responsibility for ensuring all work is safely completed under direct supervision, conducting regular safety inspections of the site.
  • Manage equipment maintenance across the plant to maintain continuous operation, respond to unplanned maintenance needs, and offer technical expertise to address plant issues.
  • Provide leadership to encourage innovation and enhancements as the organization shifts from reactive to proactive maintenance practices.
  • Contribute to spare parts management.
  • Execute both preventive and reactive maintenance tasks for the facility.
  • Collaborate with predictive maintenance teams and utilize technology to enhance equipment availability.
  • Identify and address underperforming equipment to improve overall availability.
  • Ensure key performance indicators (KPIs) are met.
  • Coordinate external contract labor when necessary.
  • Make recommendations for reliability-centered design.
  • Liaise with vendors for equipment repair or upgrades.
  • Provide guidance to employees on machinery operations.
  • Assess team skill levels and support training requirements.
  • Resolve maintenance issues promptly.
  • Apply operational knowledge to enhance maintenance functions.
  • Understand internal customer needs and how they align with external customer requirements.
  • Establish consensus and positive relationships.
  • Identify and implement improvement opportunities based on experience and knowledge.
  • Utilize technology for daily tasks and special requirements.
  • Support maintenance needs during night and weekend shifts.

The Lead Mechanic role is suitable for individuals who possess:

  • Knowledge of maintenance systems like SAP and Prometheus is a plus.
  • Familiarity with MS Project and KPI utilization.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to lead meetings effectively.
  • Must be able to operate forklifts and lift items up to 50 lbs.
  • Adherence to safety practices and maintenance standards.
