Lawyers Trust Fund of Illinois (LTF) is a charitable foundation that provides financial support to non-profit legal aid organizations based in Illinois. LTF's mission is to support the provision of civil legal services to low-income residents throughout the state in an efficient, effective, and equitable manner. Our annual grants – which totaled more than $21 million in support non-profit legal aid programs across the state of Illinois.

We are looking for an enthusiastic professional to join our team as the Director of Community Justice Initiatives reporting to the Executive Director. Candidates must reside in the Chicagoland area.

The Director of Community Justice Initiatives (DCJI) will have two main roles.

The first is to lead LTF's efforts to support legal aid programs in reaching under-served populations through community partnerships. The expertise gained in this role will guide LTF's internal efforts and benefit the Illinois legal aid community. Responsibilities of the DCJI include:

  • Organizing meetings to connect legal aid organizations and community partners, share best practices, and explore collaboration opportunities.
  • Facilitating peer learning and collaboration among legal aid practitioners and community partners, potentially establishing a community advisory board for legal aid.
  • Developing a toolkit of resource materials on community partnerships for practitioners.
  • Mapping and inventorying existing community partnerships to identify gaps through an equity lens.

The second role involves being part of the LTF Grant Review Team, assisting in the Annual Grant process by:

  • Assessing grant applications
  • Conducting site visits
  • Formulating recommendations.
  • Contributing to outreach initiatives to discover emerging legal aid organizations in underserved areas.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree is mandatory; a juris doctor degree is highly preferred.
  • Minimum five years' experience in a legal aid/public interest legal environment, with a focus on community-based work.
  • Prior involvement in a community-based setup is advantageous.
  • Cultural competency to engage effectively with historically marginalized communities.
  • Project management and program design skills.
  • Strong research, writing, and presentation abilities.
  • Prior experience in supporting individuals seeking just outcomes through the legal system;
  • Devotion to advancing civil legal aid in alignment with LTF's mission;
  • Strong work ethic and independent problem-solving capabilities;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Compensation & Perks

The Director of Community Justice Initiatives is a full-time, mainly remote role offering an annual salary range of $100,000 to $125,000, along with attractive benefits such as healthcare coverage, paid time off, and 401(k) matching.
