**Veterans Services Officer Position at Shelby County Government**

Position Summary

This role involves helping veterans access entitled benefits and records related to their service, promoting awareness and utilization of programs and services from the Veterans Administration, community agencies, and the Division of Community Services, and building relationships with organizations assisting veterans.

**Pay Grade 51**

Salary is determined based on experience and education.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Three years of experience in veterans services, community outreach, or related programs.

2. Bachelor's degree in social sciences, psychology, public administration, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

3. Honorable discharge from a military service branch.

4. Must achieve and maintain necessary certifications within ninety days of hire.

5. Validation of education, training, and/or experience is obligatory.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist veterans with benefit filings and VA records.
  • Educate and counsel veterans on available benefits and programs.
  • Develop outreach strategies to facilitate program access.
  • Create promotional materials for various audiences.
  • Establish strategic partnerships with community entities.
  • Represent the County at veteran-related events.
  • Plan programs to support veteran residents and families.
  • Coordinate recognitions for deceased and living veterans.
  • Stay informed on laws and policies impacting veterans.
  • Participate in required meetings and events for certification.
  • Conduct data collection and reporting for outreach efforts.
  • Engage in DCS outreach initiatives.
  • Perform related duties as necessary.

  • Knowledgeable about veterans' resources and military services.
  • Skilled in event planning and social services navigation.
  • Capable of developing effective programs and policies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiar with governmental structures and advocacy processes.
