Position Overview

This role is situated within the Environmental Management Service (EMS) Division of the Veterans Health Administration. The Environmental Services Technician Leader is tasked with directing and supervising the activities of Housekeeping Aids, ensuring the delivery of high-quality housekeeping services across various sections of the facility.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties Include:
  • Gathering essential information or decisions from management regarding any issues that arise during operations.
  • Monitoring ongoing work and completed tasks to confirm adherence to established procedures, methods, and timelines.
  • Communicating directives from management to team members and initiating work assignments.
  • Assessing the quality and quantity of work, providing feedback to staff regarding performance standards.
  • Exhibiting proper work techniques, procedures, and the effective use of supplies and equipment.
  • Ensuring the availability and readiness of necessary supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Utilizing both manual and powered equipment for cleaning tasks such as sweeping, scrubbing, and polishing.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to maintain an efficient work pace.
  • Staying informed about EMS procedures, policies, and directives.
  • Coordinating with nursing staff and other supervisors to facilitate effective project execution.
Work Schedule: Standard hours, Monday through Friday

Virtual Position: This is not a remote position

Position Description Title/PD#: Lead Housekeeping Aid - Lead Environmental Services Technician

Requirements

Conditions of Employment
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.
  • Selective Service Registration is mandatory for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Probationary period may be required.
  • Background/security investigation is necessary.
  • Pre-employment physical examination is required.
  • Selected candidates must complete an online onboarding process.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is mandatory for all Veterans Health Administration personnel.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all criteria by the closing date of this announcement.

Applicants will be evaluated based on the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this role, the job element method will be utilized to assess the applicant's capabilities against the job requirements.

Physical Requirements: The position requires continuous movement, including walking, standing, and lifting.

Working Conditions: Work is primarily conducted indoors with adequate environmental controls. Some tasks may require outdoor work under varying weather conditions. Personal protective equipment may be necessary in certain situations.

Additional Information

This role is part of a critical skills initiative. Candidates may be eligible for a critical skills incentive if onboard prior to the expiration date.
