Position Summary:
The Nutrition Assistant I is responsible for screening women, infants and children to determine eligibility for the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Supplemental Nutrition Program. The Nutrition Assistant I also serves as receptionist for the clinic, prints and issues food instruments and implements Truecare and WIC policies and procedures.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- 1 year working with patients in a clinical setting is required
- Ability to work with mothers to be and newborns, providing referrals, assisting through WIC processes and supporting breastfeeding and nutrition.
This position starts in Escondido but after six months, will rotate between clinics in the coastal area: Encinitas, Oceanside and San Marcos.
Reliable transportation, proof of insurance and a clean driving record.
- Computer proficiency, particularly data entry and inventory records of vouchers and referrals
Qualifications Desired:
- Knowledge of nutrients/foods as well as familiarity of life cycle nutritional needs (pregnancy, breastfeeding, infancy and children).
- Knowledge of the WIC Program or CA WIC Nutrition Assistant Certification is a PLUS
