Washington, United States Everytown for Gun Safety Full time

Moms Demand Action, one of the grassroots arms of Everytown for Gun Safety, is hiring a social media associate/campaigner to manage digital strategy and social media for the Executive Director. The ideal person for this role can spearhead social media strategy, capture compelling digital content, and build out the online presence of the Executive Director. The position will be a part of the Digital Team, and is based in our DC office (3 days in-person, 2 days remote).

In this role you will:

  • Create and execute long and short term strategy for the Executive Director's social media platforms.
  • Help build the movement and the Executive Director's online audience by drafting copy, curating and creating content that breaks news, makes connections between volunteers and survivors' work, and tells the story of our movement.
  • Assist in drafting scripts and film video assets for the Executive Director's online presence.
  • Engage with the Social Media and Digital team to ensure that the Executive Director's social media presence aligns with the larger organizational strategy.
  • Collaborate with Speechwriter to ensure that all copy is in the Executive Director's voice.
  • Manage the Executive Director's social media accounts, monitor for incoming from volunteers and partners, and make connections between grassroots work.
  • Support with analytics and reporting for other members of the Executive team and their social presence.
  • Teach non-digital colleagues best practices of social media and proactively flag opportunities for growth.
  • Community management as needed.
  • Identify new and emerging platforms and tactics to expand the Executive Director's reach as well as other members of the Executive Team.

You should have:

  • 2+ years of digital and social experience
  • Understand how stereotypes, bias, and forms of racism in America (including structural racism, implicit bias, gender bias, religious bias, ageism, and bias based on gender identity or sexual orientation) impact our society, with an expectation that you will develop an ability to articulate the connection between these large societal issues and the disproportionate impact of gun violence on specific demographic groups in America.
  • Understand how dynamics of power, voice, and privilege impact one-on-one and group interactions, and a commitment to using power, voice, and privilege to make our movement more equitable, and more representative of communities experiencing disproportionately high rates of gun violence, such as Black, Latinx, and Native communities.
  • Good at working with other people and providing lateral management. You work positively and proactively to understand the motivations of people approaching the work from different experiences (for example, members of the communications team or people with different life experience than you).
  • Exceptional writing, copy-editing and proofreading skills
  • An eye for good online content and cutting through the noise in online conversations
  • Experience creating long and short form videos for the public
  • The ability to work to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects
  • Willingness to work with a growing team in a fast-paced, campaign-like environment (including sometimes unpredictable hours and rapid response situations)

Pluses include:

  • Experience with field organizing or elections
  • Eagerness to reach new audiences on Youtube and TikTok
  • Familiarity with CapCut or live streaming software

The salary for this position is $64,000 per year. Everytown offers a generous benefits package including medical, dental, and vision benefits; paid time off; a 401(k) match; education assistance; and more.
