Accounting Specialist

Our nonprofit client is looking for an Accounting Specialist to perform a variety of financial and administrative tasks in our Finance Department. This position requires a highly motivated individual who is professional, dependable and a team player.
 POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform accounts payable procedures including invoice review, obtaining proper approval, general ledger account coding, data entry and issuance of payment.
  • Manage compliance issues around accounts payable processes (W-9, sales tax, etc.)
  • Assist with the preparation of federal and state 1099-NEC/MISC reporting.
  • Assist with accounts receivable procedures, including data entry, billing, payment application and preparation of bank deposit.
  • Monitor company credit card spending, obtain documentation and process payments on credit card accounts.
  • Perform monthly general ledger analysis and reconciliation functions for assigned accounts.
  • Assist with the preparation of documents and workpapers for the annual financial audit.
  • Maintain organized files of financial documents including vendor invoices and payments as well as customer accounts receivable records and payment receipts.
  • Manage office equipment leases, service and renewals.
  • Assist with office supply ordering.
  • Administer the company document retention and off-site storage program.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Department team to support overall department goals and objectives.
  • Provide superior service and support to all customers, both internal and external.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
 Education
  • Associate degree in accounting or finance. Bachelor’s degree a plus.
Experience
  • Minimum five years general accounting or finance experience.
 Skills and Training 
  • Strong understanding of financial concepts and principles.
  • Proficiency in the use of accounting software. Experience with Sage 100 a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (MS Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Knowledge of AP/AR cycles.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • High level of accuracy and reasoning required in data entry, analysis and other tasks.
  • Positive and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Team-oriented and highly motivated.
