Job Summary

The Supervisor of Behavioral Health Services is responsible for the direct supervision and oversight of the Behavioral Health Department Coordinators and Operation Specialists.  This position oversees a support team which provides services across all of the Behavioral Health department. The Supervisor will determine the appropriate staff for handling internal departmental related inquiries, and directly assist with interdepartmental related issues concerning contracting, data and call triage. This position will prepare the monthly updates regarding projects in Behavioral Health Services. The Supervisor will work directly with staff assigned to triage and coordinate Behavioral Health inquires, data/reporting and independent Behavioral Health program support needs (ASD Program, Transgender Health Navigation Program and Institute for Mental Disease Program). Position will be expected to meet the needs of Department Leadership.

The position supervises all aspects of running an efficient team, including hiring, supervising, coaching, training, disciplining, and motivating direct-reports.Duties

Participate and give recommendations in the development of  policies, workflows, job descriptions and/ or proposals for the Behavioral Health  team. Prepares and analyzes statistical reports. Recommends and implements system improvements on team activities. Implements protocols to assure compliance with all federal, state, and local health care regulations as they affect the provision of behavioral health services.

Oversees day-to-day activities of the team by: 1) Handling all questions/ issues raised by staff. 2) Serving as a leader and as a technical /informational resource for staff and peers. 3) Observing calls and assisting with any complex issues. 4) Planning, organizing and supervising the activities of assigned staff. 5) Ensuring telephone and correspondence responses comply with departmental, company and regulatory agency requirements.  Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees; maintaining a safe, secure, and legal work environment; developing personal growth opportunities. Accomplishes staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.

Interfaces with and collaborates with other service areas to assure optimal service delivery to members.

Facilitates optimum client satisfaction by coordinating team activities. Demonstrates leadership in triage and assessment decisions and communicates issues regarding triage process to staff. Accept, handle, and process incoming complex behavioral health services telephone inquiries using appropriate customer service skills. Clarify and validate inquiries, questions or complaints and distribute to the appropriate staff in the department ensuring timely response to internal/ external customers.

Directly supports Behavioral Health Medical Director and Behavioral Health Director in identifying operational needs department wide and collaborates with Behavioral Health Department Managers on meeting both specific and broader needs across programs.

Required:
At least 3-5 years demonstrated experience working in a multi-disciplinary behavioral health service units/ programs. 

At least 2-3 years Lead/ Supervisory experience in a health/ managed care environment.

Experience with program/policy development and implementation.

Equivalency:  Completion of the L.A. Care Management Certificate Training Program may substitute for the supervisory/management experience requirement.Skills

Knowledge of the major responsibilities, accountabilities, and organization of the department's function.

Knowledge and understanding of legislation and regulatory bodies affecting the department's  practices.

Knowledge of  trends, directions, major issues, regulatory considerations and trendsetters of the behavioral health department.
