Position Summary
Performs the primary function of protecting property of members of the Washington University community by patrolling assigned parking areas on campus and providing escorts and motorist assists.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Conducts continuous, visible, roving vehicle or foot patrol of designated University parking areas commonly used by students, faculty, staff or visitors to the University.
Reports to Police or other appropriate authority, suspicious activity and persons or unsafe conditions observed at University properties or in surrounding neighborhoods.
Provides information to faculty, staff, students and the general public regarding campus activities, locations, directions and offices.
Explains parking rules and regulations to campus community and directs drivers to alternative parking areas as necessary.
Performs all duties associated with the University’s Motorist Assist Program including, but not limited to, lock out, jump start and customer transportation.
Conducts periodic checks of buildings examining doors, windows, lighting, gates, etc.to ensure they are properly secured.
Provides escorts using Department vehicles or on foot.
Provides transport services for temporary disabled or ill students to and from residence halls and buildings on campus.
Provides transport services for students, as assigned, to and from the BJC Hospital system located in St. Louis City and St. Mary’s Hospital, located in the City of Richmond Heights.
Inspects vehicles for display of appropriate parking permits.
Enforces University parking rules and regulations.
Issues parking citations to vehicles parked in violation of University parking rules using TickeTrack hand held computer.
Consistent with departmental policies, tows and/or relocates vehicles.
Conducts traffic direction and control at special events.
Transports department vehicles and other equipment to and from service points as needed.
Conducts other requests for transport, pick-up or deliveries as approved by the on duty supervisor.
Reports to the dispatcher any problems discovered that might require maintenance notification for repair or review.
Conducts inspections of campus emergency telephones and reports mechanical problems.
Responds to fire alarms, maintenance alarms, access alarms and other alarms that do not require police authority and powers.
Prepares written reports or logs of activity and observations during the tour of duty.
Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications

Ability to speak, hear, write and communicate effectively, clearly and efficiently.
Ability to work shifts.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to work overtime as directed.
Ability to handle stress, assigned calls and complaints from the public.
Ability to read with comprehension, draws conclusions and own evaluations.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other University departments and agencies.
Ability to be objective and make decisions without outside influences.
Ability to work a hand-held computerized ticket machine.
Ability to drive in local areas during day and night hours and in adverse weather conditions.
Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
Ability to climb stairs.
Ability to lift/lower boxes of material weighing up to 25 pounds.
Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
Ability to operate a two-way radio and any and all other equipment necessary to complete the job assignment.
Ability to stretch and move weight bearing joints in the process of bending, stooping, kneeling or reaching to assist an injured person.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.
Possess a valid state driver’s license from state of residence.
Successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background investigation.
Ability to work night shifts.
Maintain security officer license.

G05-H
Salary Range
$17.03 - $24.61 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
