Key Responsibilities:
The Aquatic Safety Officer plays a vital role in ensuring a safe and enjoyable aquatic environment for all users. The primary responsibility is to safeguard the well-being of individuals utilizing our pool facilities. Key duties include:
- Maintaining vigilance and using all senses while on duty.
- Executing life-saving techniques when necessary, including CPR and utilizing an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
- Reporting potential hazards to the Facilities Supervisor/Health and Wellness/Athletics.
- Communicating and enforcing all pool regulations.
- Screening participants for pre-participation hygiene.
- Preparing the pool for various activities, including laps and classes.
- Collaborating with fellow lifeguards during special events.
- Assisting instructors with classes as needed.
- Attending all scheduled staff meetings.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required certifications include Lifeguard Certification, First Aid Certification, and CPR/AED Certification or Basic Life Saving Certification from a nationally recognized organization. Candidates must pass a pre-skills test prior to official hiring.
Preferred Skills:
Applicants should be physically fit and proficient swimmers, possess excellent observational skills, and demonstrate the ability to remain calm and act swiftly in emergencies. Candidates must be able to stand for extended periods, lift or carry over 50 lbs., and perform various physical activities such as walking, bending, stooping, crawling, or climbing.
