Overview
Under the supervision of the Director of Public Safety, part-time, PRN Safety Officers are responsible for providing additional support during scheduled or unexpected needs. They ensure a high standard of service through regular patrols and monitoring of campus facilities, enforcing local, state, and federal regulations, as well as institutional policies and parking rules. They respond to emergencies and service requests, delivering exceptional customer service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Officers are also tasked with preparing detailed written and electronic reports containing accurate and comprehensive information. Daily security assessments are conducted to identify potential risks to the campus community.

The position requires working various shifts, including weekends and holidays, with a minimum commitment of one shift per month.

Qualifications
To excel in this position, candidates should possess:
  • A high school diploma or GED; an associate's degree in criminal justice or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience in armed public safety, law enforcement, military, or security is advantageous.
  • Ability to secure and maintain an armed security license, including a clean criminal background check and driving record, along with passing physical and psychological evaluations.
  • Certification in Adult CPR with First Aid and Automatic External Defibrillation (AED) is required within 90 days of employment if not already held.
  • Familiarity with FEMA emergency protocols, with completion of FEMA Courses IS100 and IS200 within 30 days. Additional FEMA IS course completions or other emergency management certifications are beneficial.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Effective conflict resolution skills, including the capacity to de-escalate tense situations verbally.
  • A commitment to diversity and the ability to engage respectfully with individuals from various backgrounds.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting as well as independently towards departmental objectives.
  • Flexibility in scheduling and a willingness to cover shifts on short notice.
