This manager will be an integral part of the management team participating in overall plant goals, guidance, performance, and short and long-term strategic planning.  The position manages the distribution department and personnel at the plant site.  This position is responsible to work with the marketing, commercial and sales group on product shipments during normal operations and assist with balancing products during plant interruptions/turnarounds.  They also manage the contractual rail crew who place all empty rail cars on-site and weigh all cars leaving the plant site.  Total shipments managed by the product Distribution/Traffic manager include approximately 32,000 truck and approximately 12,000 railcar shipments per year. 

 

Essential Functions

  • Distribution is responsible for working with customers, Nutrien customer experience, Nutrien transportation & distribution department, and the sales group to ensure timely and efficient management of truck carriers, rail fleet management, managing overtime associated with the liquid and solids loading personnel, managing the truck and railcars to minimize any demurrage charges, and coordinating all these activities to achieve on-time delivery to all customers
  • Responsible for oversight with operations for maintaining all DOT, HAZWOPER, internal, FRA (Federal Railroad Administration) procedures and compliance for all loading and shipping personnel
  • Daily communication/collaboration is required with operations and Northbrook sales/marketing groups for product mix production at the plant and coordination with the loading personnel and equipment availability.  Required to provide a daily update to Nutrien corporate teams on product inventories, plant productions, plant issues, coordinating loading outages associated with maintenance activities, sales personnel visits, customer visits, and audits

 

Required Education and Experience

  • Degree from a recognized university is preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years product distribution and rail transportation experience
