POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Principal, the Dean of Students will provide student services leadership, oversee social worker interns, assist identified high risk/need students by providing strategic services that identify and address the academic and social-emotional-environmental issues that interfere with the educational process.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

● Valid Administrative Services Credential

● California Driver's License

● 5+ years working with middle or high school students

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
Collaborate with school personnel, students, parents, and/or community agencies to promote optimal learning outcomes for all students.Develop and implement programs and initiatives to support the social, emotional, and behavioral well-being of middle school students. Oversee student discipline processes, ensuring fair and consistent enforcement of school policies and procedures. Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to identify and address issues impacting student behavior and attendance. Provide support and intervention services for students experiencing academic or personal challenges, including crisis intervention when necessary. Coordinate with external agencies and community resources to provide additional support services for students and families. Conduct trainings and workshops for students on topics such as conflict resolution, bullying prevention, and mental health awareness. Maintain accurate records of student behavior incidents and interventions, while ensuring confidentiality and privacy.

● In collaboration with the school principal, manage student disciplinary issues and implement positive cultural programs to support student self-image, school values and positive habits for academic, social and emotional development.

● Serve as a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.

● Maintain a cooperative, professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.

● Provide information/training to school site faculty and staff, individuals and community groups to foster understanding of social aspects of environmental, emotional and physical problems and methods to alleviate these problems.

● Provide coaching and assistance in the implementation of school-wide positive behavioral intervention and support.

● Provide assistance and guidance for schools as restorative practices are implemented.

● Utilize skills in problem solving and assessment for intervention to support teachers in meeting the instructional needs of all students.

● Serve as a liaison between families and Student Study Teams (SSTs) by meeting with parents/guardians to assess home/community areas that interfere with students' capacity to receive and/or benefit from instruction.

● Conduct functional assessments that are intervention-oriented and that consider the environmental context of the presenting problems as they relate to the student's capacity to receive and/or benefit from instruction.

● Implement individual, group, or system-level interventions that are scientifically proven to promote positive social, emotional, behavioral, and independent functioning outcomes.

● Assist Individual Education Plan (IEP) teams in the development of meaningful, objective, and measurable IEP goals and support instructional personnel in the progress monitoring of these goals.

● Assist school-level personnel in supporting student attendance by managing truancy referrals that adhere to state and district policies and procedures for truancy.

● Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to determine the instructional, social, emotional, and/or behavioral needs of all students.

● Partner with instructional, non-instructional, and administrative personnel in their support of students who demonstrate aggressive behavior, self-injurious behavior, and /or high-magnitude disruptive behavior.

● Ability to maintain confidentiality and student privacy.

● Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

● Knowledge of applicable sections of the Education Code and other applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures governing work scope.

● Effective communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups.

● Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with school personnel, students, and parents.

● Knowledge of behavior modification techniques and strategies for dealing with individuals from a variety of socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds including those with physical disabilities and emotional problems.

● Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks and accomplish multiple projects simultaneously, take prompt action to achieve objectives as well as identify issues as they arise and address them proactively.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

• Sufficient vision to read material with or without vision aides;

• Sufficient hearing to conduct in-person conversations with students, teachers and parents;

• Sufficient voice volume to be heard at normal conversational distances;

• Ability to stand, sit or walk, or bend for extended periods of time;

• Physical, mental and emotional stamina to endure stressful conditions;

• Use hands to touch, handle, reach, feel objects, controls, or tools;

• Occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds;
