Job Summary:
The Academic Advisor I will play a pivotal role in fostering student achievement and retention through comprehensive advising services. This position is dedicated to supporting students from diverse academic backgrounds, ensuring they have the resources and guidance necessary for their educational journey.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Focus on enhancing student success, retention, outreach, and diversity initiatives.
  • Provide academic guidance to students across various colleges and programs.
  • Maintain accurate advising records and evaluate student academic progress.
  • Execute administrative tasks and special projects as needed.
  • Connect students with appropriate campus resources for additional support.
  • Participate in college events and outreach activities, which may include evening and weekend commitments.
  • Engage with prospective students and their families during campus visits.
  • Utilize electronic advising systems to streamline communication and support.
  • Implement academic alert notifications to improve student interactions.
  • Adapt advising practices in accordance with university policy changes.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with students through various channels.

K-12 Outreach and Programming:
Under the supervision of the Dean, the advisor will assist in K-12 outreach initiatives and programming. Specific duties may include:
  • Supporting the organization and execution of regional science fairs and competitions.
  • Facilitating the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium at both regional and national levels.
  • Assisting with the coordination of Science Olympiad events.
  • Other administrative responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree with up to two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50, experience in honors programs, and recognition in academic excellence. A background in K-12 STEM outreach is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to ethical practices and the ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
